Last week, we hosted the first summit of the 2026 Resource Alliance Leadership Programme.

We were joined by Amitabh Behar, Executive Director of Oxfam International, for a deep exploration of the shifting global context in which the social impact sector now operates - within which, he tells us, billionaires are accumulating wealth in new and dangerous ways that threaten the very fabric of our democracies.

Drawing on the recent Oxfam report, Resisting the Rule of the Rich, Amitabh exposed how extreme wealth concentration is no longer just an economic issue, but is increasingly shaping political power and media narratives.

For the next year, 105 leaders from 43 countries will work together to address challenges, like this one, that are facing our sector, from shrinking civic space and democratic erosion, to the changing landscape of philanthropy and development funding.

Global perspectives root the programme in lived realities across different contexts and will set the tone for the work ahead as we ask questions like:

• What must civil society stop defending?
• What must we rebuild or reimagine?
• And what does leadership require of us in this moment of systemic change?

The 2026 cohort will spend the coming year learning from one another, challenging each other, and exploring how we can respond to this moment - individually and as a collective.

We’re excited to see where this year’s journey takes us.

At the start of each year, the Resource Alliance Leadership Programme brings together 100+ leaders from all over the world, representing a wide range of causes, contexts, and lived experience. Over 12 months, this cohort collaborates on some of the most pressing challenges facing our sector while supporting one another to navigate uncertainty, complexity, and change.
