A couple of weeks ago, our incredible team in Haiti hosted our very first “Former Patients’ Club” - a special gathering for former patients and outpatients to celebrate progress, share experiences and stay connected.
The club brings our community together for connection and ongoing support. It is important for our patients to know that care doesn’t end when treatment does.

The day ended with a reminder from Brother Samuel, a former patient, to love ourselves and continue supporting one another to build stronger communities.

A day at our Plumpy' Doz distribution in Kajo-Keji, South Sudan 🥜💙
Parents and caregivers with children who are at risk of malnutrition are identified and supplied with Plumpy’Doz - a nutritional supplement that prevents malnutrition and assists continued recovery. On distribution day they also receive practical nutrition advice and hygiene workshops.

For Aba (picture 1) whose children Steven and Ida are both enrolled in the programme, the support has made a clear difference. Alongside improved nutrition, simple hygiene practices like regular handwashing have helped protect her children's health.

Recently, our Nutrition Officer Claire went out with our mobile clinic to visit the community of Mijale to lead a food demonstration, exploring the importance of a balanced diet using locally available foods.

These sessions are all about bringing knowledge into communities. They form part of a collaborative approach alongside our agricultural team, that provides support in tackling malnutrition and poor health at its roots.

It was great seeing the community engage with Claire with creativity and enthusiasm!

Meet Gustav ✨
After a fall while working in construction left him with a spinal cord injury, Gustav lost the ability to walk. Returning to Haiti after hospital treatment in the Dominican Republic, he struggled for years without access to the specialist care or mobility support he needed - eventually becoming almost completely confined to his home when his wheelchair broke.

Years later, as violence spread through his hometown in Haiti, he was forced to flee after his home was burned down.

In October 2025, Gustav arrived at Grace Rehabilitation Centre. On arrival, he was given a wheelchair and admitted as an inpatient, finally accessing the specialist rehabilitation and holistic support he had been without for so long.

“Here, I feel like I’m not sick… I’m starting to feel the ground underneath my feet.”

It is with great sadness to share that our dear friend and the previous Executive Director of Konbit Sante, Nate Nickerson, sadly passed away last week after a brief illness. Nate was an extraordinary individual who shaped the work of HHA more than he perhaps knew. His passion for Haiti, alongside his humility, compassion, wisdom and years of selfless, sacrificial service was an inspiration to all. It has been an immense privilege to serve alongside Nate for close to two decades. His warmth, love, and wonderful humour - even in the most challenging times - will be deeply missed by all of us and Cap-Haitien as a whole. We stand with and send our deepest love and condolences to his wife, his family and all those at KS during this time.

Meet Marie Therese and her husband Ramon ✨

Four years ago, Marie Therese had a stroke that left her unable to walk. Since then, Ramón has been her primary carer - bathing her, feeding her, carrying her.

During her wheelchair fitting with HHA, it was impossible not to notice the care and attentiveness Ramón showed towards his wife. When he was told how well he had been caring for her, he looked at Marie Therese and said quietly, "Until the end - I will take care of her until the end. God gave me the strength."

Stories like this are a reminder of the quiet strength and devotion shown by carers in Haiti every day - often behind closed doors and without recognition.

is all about celebrating the strength, resilience and rich culture of Haiti and its people 🇭🇹

Throughout the month, we'll be sharing stories from some of the incredible beneficiaries and staff members we're privileged to work alongside in Haiti.
For nearly two decades, HHA has worked alongside Haitian healthcare workers, educators, churches, and local leaders to support inclusive healthcare, rehabilitation, and community-based care.
We're proud to celebrate the people bringing hope and transformation to their communities every day!!

“Hope is not about pretending everything is fine, or simple sunny optimism, but recognising that these challenges are not insurmountable. The foundations are there. What’s missing is the support to keep going and to reach further.”

After returning from Uganda and South Sudan, our Development Director Merren reflects on both the impact of our work and the growing challenges communities are facing following international aid cuts.
It’s a story of both heartbreak and hope and a reminder that, with the right support, lasting change is possible.

Last January, 7 year old Winnie received her first wheelchair through HHA 💙🦽
When the team first met Winnie, the lack of mobility was making Winnie’s daily life incredibly challenging. She would have to crawl on the ground to move around and would often be left alone while her parents worked, unable to engage with the other children in her community.
However, after receiving her wheelchair, the other children now push her along as they play together, and she’s part of village life in a whole new way.
Cynthia, HHA P&O Technician - “I stopped by and her family immediately recognised me. With heartfelt smiles … they could not stop expressing their gratitude.”
