🇵🇱🤝🏴 Polish History Recognised in the Scottish Parliament – A Significant Moment for the Polish Diaspora
During the inaugural meeting of the Council for Polish Affairs and Poles Abroad under the President of the Republic of Poland, held in Warsaw on 2 May 2026, Iwona Golinska - President of the Polish Sue Association had the honour to present the original resolution of the Scottish Parliament concerning the commemoration of Polish history in Scotland to Minister Agnieszka Jędrzak from the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland.
🇵🇱🤝🏴 This official resolution (Motion S6M-21142), adopted by the Scottish Parliament, together with the accompanying letter from MSP Annie Wells, represents a remarkable recognition of the contribution made by Polish soldiers, sailors and airmen who fought alongside the Allies during the Second World War.
The resolution was inspired by the exhibition “Trails of Hope. The Odyssey of Freedom”, prepared by the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) and officially opened in the Scottish Parliament on 13 March 2026. The exhibition told the story of Polish citizens deported to the Soviet Union, the journey of Anders’ Army, and Poland’s struggle for freedom alongside the Allied nations.
🇵🇱🤝🏴 During the opening ceremony in Edinburgh, Minister Agnieszka Jędrzak read a special letter from the President of the Republic of Poland, underlining the importance of preserving historical memory and strengthening international cooperation based on shared values.
The Scottish Parliament also recognised the role of Polish sailors, including the crew of ORP Piorun, in defending Great Britain during the Clydebank Blitz of March 1941. This acknowledgement is a powerful reminder that the bonds between Poland and Scotland remain strong and that the sacrifices of Polish heroes continue to be remembered and appreciated.
🇵🇱🤝🏴 Special recognition was given to the Polish Sue Association and the Institute of National Remembrance, whose joint efforts helped organise commemorative events in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Clydebank, promoting Polish history and strengthening Polish-Scottish relations.
The presentation of this original parliamentary resolution to Minister Agnieszka Jędrzak during the first meeting of the Council was a symbolic moment. It demonstrates that Polish history is not only remembered at home but is also respected and honoured internationally.

Podczas inauguracyjnego posiedzenia Rady ds. Polski i Polaków za Granicą przy Prezydencie RP, które odbyło się w Warszawie 2 maja 2026 r., Iwona Golińska – Prezes Stowarzyszenia Polish Sue – miała zaszczyt wręczyć Minister Agnieszce Jędrzak z Kancelarii Prezydenta RP oryginał rezolucji Parlamentu Szkockiego w sprawie upamiętnienia historii Polski w Szkocji.
🇵🇱🤝🏴 Niniejsza oficjalna rezolucja (wniosek S6M-21142), przyjęta przez Parlament Szkocki, wraz z towarzyszącym jej listem od posłanki Annie Wells, stanowi niezwykłe uznanie wkładu polskich żołnierzy, marynarzy i lotników, którzy walczyli u boku aliantów podczas II wojny światowej.
Rezolucja została zainspirowana wystawą „Szlaki nadziei. Odyseja wolności”, przygotowaną przez Instytut Pamięci Narodowej (IPN) i oficjalnie otwartą w Parlamencie Szkockim 13 marca 2026 r. Wystawa opowiada historię polskich obywateli deportowanych do Związku Radzieckiego, historię Armii Andersa oraz walkę Polski o wolność u boku aliantów.
🇵🇱🤝🏴 Podczas ceremonii otwarcia w Edynburgu minister Agnieszka Jędrzak odczytała specjalny list Prezydenta RP, w którym podkreśliła wagę pielęgnowania pamięci historycznej i wzmacniania współpracy międzynarodowej opartej na wspólnych wartościach.
Parlament Szkocki docenił również rolę polskich marynarzy, w tym załogi ORP Piorun, w obronie Wielkiej Brytanii podczas nalotu na Clydebank w marcu 1941 roku. To uznanie jest dobitnym przypomnieniem, że więzi między Polską a Szkocją pozostają silne, a poświęcenie polskich bohaterów jest nadal pamiętane i doceniane.
🇵🇱🤝🏴 Szczególne uznanie otrzymało Stowarzyszenie Polskich Sue i Instytut Pamięci Narodowej, których wspólne działania pomogły w organizacji obchodów w Edynburgu, Glasgow i Clydebank, promując polską historię i wzmacniając relacje polsko-szkockie.
Przekazanie tej oryginalnej rezolucji parlamentarnej minister Agnieszce Jędrzak podczas pierwszego posiedzenia Rady było momentem symbolicznym. Pokazuje ono, że polska historia jest nie tylko pamiętana w kraju, ale także szanowana i czczona na arenie międzynarodowej.
To osiągnięcie nie byłoby możliwe bez nieocenionego wsparcia Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej, a w szczególności profesora Karola Polejowskiego, wiceprezesa IPN, a także naszych partnerów w Szkocji, w tym posłanki Annie Wells i wielu innych, którzy nadal wspierają zachowanie naszej wspólnej historii.
Historia ma moc budowania mostów między narodami. Ta rezolucja jest dowodem na to, że pamięć o polskich bohaterach pozostaje żywa, inspiruje przyszłe pokolenia i nadal znajduje uznanie daleko poza granicami Polski.
