In Jashore, Bangladesh, The Salvation Army has maintained a long‑term, trusted presence across the road from the city's brothel district, reaching out with compassion and partnering with women and local leaders to challenge exploitation. The project’s priorities have been set by the community itself. Women have trained in income‑generating activities aligned to their interests; awareness sessions with leaders, teachers, students and guardians are building collective action; and a child‑friendly drop‑in centre provides education, play and daily meals.

🟠As we mark the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, read this article from Project Manager Sh*tal Roy as he reflects on the impact of the project.

🟠 16 Days of Activism

Every 11 minutes a woman or girl dies at the hands of an intimate partner or family member. The Red Chair Project is a powerful way to remember those lives and raise awareness during the UN’s of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

Place an empty chair draped in red fabric in a public space, share the facts, and start the conversation. Together, we can advocate for safety, dignity and hope.
