Police have today (Sunday, February 22) named the victim of a fatal stabbing in a Northampton skate park.

A murder investigation was launched on Wednesday, February 18, following the death of a 20-year-old Northampton man in the Briar Hill area of the town.

Detectives today named the victim, who was fatally stabbed in the skate park in Ringway, as Mason Miller.

A second stabbing victim, aged 17, suffered life-threatening injuries in the attack and remains under treatment in hospital.

Dozens of detectives, police officers and staff have been working around the clock since the incident at about 3.30pm on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers have been carrying out house-to-house enquiries and there has been an increased police presence in the area, including high-visibility patrols to offer reassurance and support the community.

As part of the wider police investigation, two 15-year-old boys and a 14-year-old youth appeared before Northampton Magistrates Court yesterday (Saturday, February 21) charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.

Bristol man charged over purchase of 40 handguns and 3D-printed weapon

National Crime Agency statement: A man from Bristol has been charged with fi****ms offences in connection with the purchase of almost 40 handguns and the discovery of two other weapons in the city.

Luke Fortune, 22, from Longwell Green, was arrested by National Crime Agency investigators in July 2024 in relation to the purchase of 35 top venting blank fi****ms, three antique fi****ms and more than 1,000 bullets, and the manufacture of a 3D printed sub-machine gun.

He was further arrested in January this year after two handguns – a Glock-style pistol and a revolver - were found by Avon & Somerset Police officers hidden in a bush in the Longwell Green area.

He has been charged with a number of fi****ms offences and appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court today (21 February).

NCA senior investigating officer Andy Lawton said: “These weapons could have caused untold damage to our communities with potentially fatal consequences.

“Working closely with our partners in the UK and overseas, we are relentless in our efforts to suppress the availability of fi****ms and ammunition to criminals.”

One man has been convicted of attempted murder of a woman and child and a further four other men have been convicted of other offences following a house fire in Stoke-on-Trent.

Yesterday (Friday 20 February), the jury returned their verdict following an 11-week trial at Nottingham Crown Court:

Shakil Uddin 23, of Oldham, was convicted of attempted murder and arson with intent

Lukman Khan 24, and Riyadh Iqbal 23, both of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, were both found guilty of Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent and arson with intent

Muhammad Sufyaan-Shah 25 of HMP Hindley, Wigan, and Tayyeb Majeed , 23, of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, were both convicted of Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent.

Prior to the start of the trial, Ali Abbas 22, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, and Haris Mahmood 21, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, both pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

At around 4pm on 16 December 2021, Naveed Hussain, Bilal Ahmed, Kashif Ahmed and Ali Abbas had a fight on Kildare Street, Longton. Kashif Ahmed received a stab wound to his shoulder and went to hospital for treatment.

At 10.55pm the same day, a number of men went to a house on Beverley Drive, Bentilee, demanding to speak to Naveed Hussain. The men smashed the downstairs windows and poured petrol in the hallway near to the front door and outside near to the living room window.

A 31-year-old woman was struck on the head and set on fire. She received 65 per cent burns and was not expected to survive, but she did. She was in a coma for two months and has life-changing injuries that require continual medical treatment.

A 13-year-old girl received 15 per cent burns to her right arm and right leg. To escape, the woman and the girl, smashed the upstairs bedroom window and jumped out. The woman suffered a broken pelvis, broken ribs and a lacerated liver; she had to learn to walk again. They were both taken to hospitals in Birmingham for treatment.

The case required extensive work to piece together CCTV, digital evidence and specialist material to build a robust evidential case for each individual involved.

Prior to the trial, Naveed Hussain (below left), 32, of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place in December 2025. Kashif Ahmed (below middle), 25, of Stoke-on-Trent, and Bilal Ahmed (below right), 26, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent and Ali Abbas, 22 of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

A woman has been found guilty of killing her two-month-old baby daughter by a jury today (20 Feb).

Zara Arsalan had pleaded not guilty to killing baby Harleen in 2020

On 23 July, emergency services received a call that a baby girl was unresponsive after falling from her mother’s lap.

When paramedics arrived at her home in West Bromwich, Harleen’s breathing was unstable, and she had a serious head injury. The little girl was taken to hospital where she sadly passed away from her injuries the next day.

A post-mortem revealed that the little girl had multiple skull fractures, bleeding on the brain fractured ribs and a fractured collar bone.

Injuries that were not consistent with a fall but more like coming into contact with a hard surface. Harleen was also likely shaken.

Zara Arsalan was arrested and later charged with Harleen’s murder.

Today, the 31-year-old was found guilty of her baby girl’s murder at Coventry Crown Court and will be sentenced on 12 March.
