As part of London Climate Action Week 2026, the Global Human Rights Centre was pleased to convene a high-level policy dialogue on “Human Rights as Climate Solutions: Transforming Climate Governance.”

Today, we are pleased to share the Graphic Recording of the event by artist Jennifer Moore, capturing the key themes and discussions from the session.

Chaired by Dr Cynthia C. Umezulike PhD, the dialogue brought together policymakers, legal experts, civil society leaders, academics, and climate practitioners to explore how human rights can strengthen climate governance.

We were honoured to hear from Em Fenton, Senior Director of Climate Diplomacy at Opportunity Green; Farah Ahmed, Co-Founder and Facilitator at Diaspora Futures; and Aoko Otieno, Policy and Advocacy Officer at the East African Wildlife Society. Their contributions highlighted the importance of climate justice, inclusive governance, stronger collaboration, and ensuring that the voices of climate-vulnerable communities are at the centre of climate policy.

The discussion reinforced a simple but important message: Human rights are not separate from climate action. They are essential to delivering effective, equitable, and lasting climate solutions.

WE ARE HIRING - SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

Role Description This is a part-time remote role for a Social Media Manager. The Social Media Manager will plan, create, and schedule content across GHRC’s social media channels to amplify research outputs, policy briefs, and project updates, particularly related to human rights, climate justice, and rural livelihoods. The role involves managing daily platform activity, monitoring engagement, and optimizing posts to increase reach among key audiences such as policymakers, practitioners, and civil society organizations. The Social Media Manager will collaborate with research and program teams to translate complex policy and field insights into accessible, compelling social content, including posts, threads, short videos, and visual summaries. The role also includes tracking analytics, adjusting strategy based on performance data, and supporting digital campaigns aligned with GHRC’s advocacy and international engagement work.

Qualifications
•Proficiency in Social Media Marketing and Social Media Optimization (SMO) to manage and grow organizational presence across platforms.
•Strong Communication and Writing skills to convey complex policy and research insights in clear, accessible, and engaging formats.
•Experience in Content Strategy, including planning editorial calendars, aligning content with organizational goals, and tailoring messages to diverse audiences.

Announcing the Graduates of the 2026 Advocacy and Social Action Development Programme📣

After four weeks of intensive learning, dialogue, and collaboration, the Human Rights Lawyers Association (HRLA) and the Global Human Rights Centre (GHRC) are proud to announce the successful graduates of the 2026 Advocacy and Social Action Development Programme.

Selected from a highly competitive pool of applicants from around the world, participants engaged with leading experts and practitioners on some of the most pressing issues shaping our future, including advocacy and leadership, sustainable development, climate action and energy transitions, community engagement, and strategies for driving meaningful social impact.

Graduation from the programme was awarded only to delegates who satisfied our rigorous attendance and participation requirements by successfully completing all four weeks of the programme.

OECD Forum on Gender Equality: Harnessing the Digital Transformation for All🗺️

The Global Human Rights Centre (GHRC) participated in the 2026 Forum on Gender Equality in Paris, joining policymakers, international organisations, civil society and academics to discuss how digital transformation can drive gender equality rather than deepen existing inequalities.

From AI and women’s leadership in STEM to online safety and technology-facilitated gender-based violence, the discussions highlighted the urgent need for inclusive, rights-based policies. With 244 million fewer women than men online globally, closing the digital gender gap has never been more important.

These conversations closely align with GHRC’s work, including our Chisomejé Rural Women Rising Project (CRWRP), which addresses the structural barriers facing women in rural agrifood systems. Whether in urban or rural communities, advancing gender equality requires inclusive policies, meaningful participation and community-led solutions.

We are grateful for the opportunity to engage with global partners and look forward to strengthening collaboration to help turn policy commitments into lasting change for women and girls.

Big News from the Global Human Rights Centre! 📢

Global Human Rights Centre’s (GHRC) written input has been officially published and extensively cited in the new United Nations Human Rights Council Report on Agribusiness, Food Security and Human Rights (A/HRC/62/36).

Our submission, led by GHRC President Dr. Cynthia C. Umezulike PhD, played a vital role in shaping the report’s recommendations, particularly under Pillar I: The State Duty to Protect Human Rights.

The UN Working Group highlighted GHRC’s advocacy for two transformative shifts in global food governance:

🌟 Democratizing Decision-Making: The report references our work to emphasize that a cornerstone of rights-based governance is the meaningful involvement of marginalized populations including local communities, Indigenous Peoples, women, widows, youth, and smallholder farmers especially across the global South.

🌟 Expert Coordination: The report adopts our recommendation for States to establish semi-autonomous interministerial committees. These bodies, assisted by forensic food scientists and civil society auditors, serve as essential mechanisms to oversee high-risk agribusiness approvals and ensure diverse perspectives shape food policy.

At GHRC, we remain committed to shifting the global focus from charity toward justice and structural transformation, ensuring food systems become instruments for empowerment rather than exploitation.

Final Reflections from OECD OECD Green Growth and Sustainable Development (GGSD) Forum 2026

The OECD Green Growth and Sustainable Development (GGSD) Forum 2026 convened in Paris, bringing together policymakers, academics, international organisations, businesses, and civil society to explore the theme, “The Economics of Climate Adaptation: Investing in a Resilient Future.”

A central message emerged throughout the Forum: climate adaptation must be recognised not merely as a response to climate risk, but as a strategic investment in resilient economies, sustainable development, and human well-being.

Among the six thematic sessions, two discussions were particularly significant. The first focused on integrating climate adaptation into public policy, national planning, infrastructure development, and sectoral decision-making, highlighting the need to embed resilience across all levels of governance and development planning. The second examined the role of businesses and private finance in strengthening climate resilience, emphasising that collaboration between the public and private sectors is essential to mobilise investment, foster innovation, and build long-term economic resilience.

Across the Forum, there was broad recognition that effective climate adaptation requires coordinated action, evidence-based policymaking, and inclusive partnerships.

At the Global Human Rights Centre, we recognise that climate building resilient societies requires policies that protect livelihoods, advance equality, and ensure that those most affected by climate change are not left behind..

Day 1 OECD Green Growth and Sustainable Development Forum 2026

The Global Human Rights Centre (GHRC) is pleased to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) at the 2026 Green Growth and Sustainable Development (GGSD) Forum in Paris, where global leaders, policymakers, academics and practitioners are exploring how climate adaptation can strengthen economic resilience and support sustainable development.

We began the Forum by participating in the high-level opening session, “Reaping the Economic Benefits of Adaptation,” which examined how investing in climate adaptation can safeguard economies, protect livelihoods and strengthen resilience against growing climate risks. The discussion underscored the importance of integrating adaptation into economic planning and fostering international cooperation to accelerate resilient and inclusive growth.

Human Rights as Climate Solutions: Transforming Climate Governance

Em Fenton is the Senior Director, Climate Diplomacy at Opportunity Green, where they support climate-vulnerable countries in multilateral negotiations and international climate processes, championing justice and equity in the transition to a net-zero world.

With a career spanning grassroots conservation, climate policy, and international advocacy, Em has worked across Cameroon, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom. Prior to joining Opportunity Green, they led the Scottish Government’s International Climate Policy Team advancing global advocacy efforts on climate-induced loss and damage.

Drawing on extensive experience in climate diplomacy, international advocacy, and policy development, Em will offer valuable insights into how we can strengthen climate governance and drive more inclusive, accountable, and effective climate action.

Human Rights as Climate Solutions: Transforming Climate Governance

Theresa Aoko Otieno is an environmental policy and advocacy expert with over a decade of experience advancing forest governance, biodiversity conservation, and community-driven development across East Africa. She currently serves as Policy & Advocacy Officer at the East African Wild Life Society, where she coordinates the Kenya Forests Working Group and the Kenya Wetlands Forum, contributing to policy reforms, conservation initiatives, and multi-stakeholder environmental dialogues.

A passionate advocate for inclusive environmental governance, Theresa has played an active role in national legislation reviews, REDD+ processes, and regional conservation efforts. She is also the founder of Kenya Youth in Forestry, an initiative dedicated to strengthening youth participation and community engagement in environmental restoration and sustainable natural resource management.

Drawing on extensive experience in policy advocacy, conservation leadership, and stakeholder engagement, Theresa will provide valuable insights into how people-centred environmental governance can support more equitable and effective climate action.
