With Camden Council Council’s continued support, we now have TWO Sight Support Workers across the borough, offering home visits and telephone support to blind and visually impaired adults.

We’re reaching those who are isolated or facing loneliness with both practical and emotional support. This vital service simply wouldn’t be possible without this funding.

So truly, Thank You.

Image Description:

A bright, bold graphic with a yellow background and decorative white dot patterns. Large, dark navy text at the top reads “THANK YOU” in all caps.

Below, on the left side, more navy text reads: “CAMDEN COUNCIL FOR FUNDING OUR SIGHT SUPPORT SERVICE.”

On the right side, there is a rectangular photo showing two service users sitting together indoors. An older woman with short grey hair and glasses is smiling warmly, wearing a light cardigan over a striped top. She appears engaged and happy. Facing her is another person, partially visible, leaning in as if in conversation or offering support.

At the bottom of the graphic, the organisation’s name “BlindAid” appears in large navy text, with a smaller line underneath reading: “For visually impaired Londoners since 1834.”

Overall, the image conveys gratitude and highlights supportive, friendly interaction between people.

We are delighted to share that BlindAid are collaborating with Dr Johnson's House for a special one-off event on Sunday 22nd March 2026.

We’ve been working closely with the team there to create a welcoming and engaging afternoon exploring the history of the house and its connection to blind history.

Dr Johnson’s House was the home of Samuel Johnson, who created the first comprehensive English dictionary.

Importantly for our community, the house was also home to Anna Williams, a poet and scholar who was blind, making it a fascinating place to explore together.

During the afternoon you’ll be able to enjoy:
• Short talks from the Dr Johnson’s House team
• A talk from one of our service users sharing their story
• An opportunity to handle historical objects from the house
• Audio-described guides available through QR codes
• Time to explore the historic building and meet others

Event details

Date: Sunday 22nd March 2026
Time: 12:00pm to 4:00pm

Schedule for the day:

12:00pm – Arrival at Dr Johnson’s House
1:00pm – Talks from BlindAid and the Dr Johnson’s House team
2:00pm – Object handling session and audio-described guides
2:30pm - Talks from BlindAid and the Dr Johnson's House team
4:00pm – Event ends

Please note: attendees will be responsible for making their own way to the venue.

Location: Dr Johnson’s House, 17 Gough Square, London, EC4A 3DE

Getting there

Dr Johnson’s House is located in the historic courts and alleys just off Fleet Street. It is signposted from Fleet Street and Fetter Lane.

Across the centre, large bold black text reads: “THANK YOU, GROUNDWORK.”
Behind the text are multiple photos of people and community activities.

In the top right corner is an older bald man wearing a striped top, looking slightly downward.
On the left side, a close-up shows a hand with rings touching a tactile board with raised pins.
Near the middle, a small group of people are walking outdoors near a Dial-A-Ride vehicle.
On the right, a man wearing a hat and glasses appears to be speaking with someone.
At the bottom right, a smiling woman wearing glasses and a headscarf is seated at a table with a bowl of food and a laptop.
At the bottom left, two people are smiling outdoors, partially cropped by the collage layout.
Another image shows two women in conversation indoors.

Near the bottom centre of the collage is a white square featuring a green triangular logo with the word “GROUNDWORK” written along its side.
The overall design feels celebratory and community-focused.

The video then changes to a clean, text-based poster on a bright yellow background.

At the top, in large bold black letters, it reads:
“BlindAid”
Underneath in smaller text: “For visually impaired Londoners since 1834”

In the centre of the poster, bold black capital letters say:

Centered across the image is a large illustrated megaphone, angled slightly to the right. Inside the megaphone is a black halftone-style silhouette of a person’s face, as if their voice is being amplified. Soft white cloud-like shapes drift around the megaphone, suggesting sound or announcement.
On the right side appears the BlindAid logo, with the text: “BlindAid – For visually impaired Londoners since 1834.”
In the middle of the poster, a large rounded white speech-bubble shape contains bold dark text that reads: “WE DID IT!” Decorative confetti and party popper icons surround the message, reinforcing a celebratory tone.

At the bottom corners, illustrated clapping hands add to the feeling of celebration and appreciation.

A montage of BlindAid services in action. A group of trainees practice sighted guide techniques during a visual impairment awareness session (crossing a road, with one person wearing blindfolds, whilst the others guides them). A support worker visits a service user at home, offering one-to-one assistance. Outdoors, a support worker walks alongside a service user, using sighted guide techniques, offering emotional and practical support. Guided hands move across a page of braille, reading by touch.
In a kitchen, blind and partially sighted people take part in a cooking class, preparing food with guidance and adaptive techniques. A group participates in a yoga class, practising gentle poses guided by calm verbal instruction. This is followed by an I.T. session, where participants use accessible technology. The video ends with the BlindAid logo and the BlindAid website displayed on screen.

Thank you EY!

Your volunteers were fantastic this year for helping our service users enjoy an accessible Christmas shopping trip.

We provided Visual Impairment Awareness and Sight Guided training for all the EY volunteers.

EY volunteers met our service users outside Westfields London and headed off in pairs to do some guided retail therapy.

EY generously provided lunch for all who attended the trip too!

We’re so grateful for your continued support and thankful for this ongoing partnership.

The people in the photo are smiling and standing close together, showing a friendly, celebratory atmosphere.
The border of the image is bright yellow with white snowflakes and black string lights illustrated throughout.

BlindAid x Upslide Take A Trip To The Tower Of London!

A huge thank you to Upslide for partnering with us to make this unforgettable day happen!

Despite the snow and bitter British weather, their brilliant volunteers showed up with enthusiasm and dedication. Putting their VI awareness and sighted guiding training into action, they supported our service users through a memorable guided tour of the Tower of London, followed by a lovely lunch at Zizzi.

We’re so grateful for your commitment, energy, and teamwork.

Together, we’re making meaningful experiences accessible for all.
