A few months ago, we embarked on an incredible journey with our Code Queen Cohort 15.

Over the past months, these talented young women have been building their software development skills from the ground up. They began with version control using Git, progressed to front-end development with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, explored UI/UX design using Figma, and advanced into back-end development, working with APIs, MongoDB, Node.js, and more.

To culminate their learning journey, the cohort participated in a Hackathon where they were challenged to design and build a community-based sisterhood platform. The participants organized themselves into teams, taking on roles as project managers, front-end developers, and back-end developers. Together, they collaborated, developed innovative solutions, and confidently presented their final pitches to a panel of judges.

This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our Code Queens, as well as the collective effort of everyone who supported them along the way.

A heartfelt thank you to our judges for your valuable insights and encouragement, and to our facilitators and mentors for your unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of women in technology.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our partners, the National ICT Hub Uganda and dfcu Foundation, for believing in the vision of Code Queen and investing in the growth of young women through digital skills and software development. Your support continues to create opportunities, transform lives, and strengthen Uganda's technology ecosystem.

To our Code Queens, we are incredibly proud of you. Your resilience, teamwork, leadership, and determination have been inspiring to witness. You have proven that with the right support and opportunity, women can build, innovate, and lead in technology.

Congratulations, Cohort 15! This is only the beginning. We look forward to seeing the solutions, businesses, and impact you will create in the years ahead. 👑💜

Opportunities don’t just happen they are intentionally created.

In a country with one of the youngest populations, what does it truly take to open doors for women who are ready, capable, and deserving?

It starts with rethinking how we build. Because inclusive designs are only possible through inclusive design processes where women are not just beneficiaries, but active contributors and decision-makers.

If we want sustainable impact, inclusion cannot be an afterthought. It must be the foundation.

A Note from Our Facilitator :

Catherine
Proud to be part of a journey that is changing lives through technology.

As a teaching facilitator with Code Queen, I have had the opportunity to mentor and support incredible women as they build confidence and skills in coding. In Cohort 14, I guided a team during the hackathon where they developed an application aimed at improving transport fee transactions in Uganda, a solution grounded in real community needs.

Now in Cohort 15, the mission continues. Empowering more women to step into tech, solve problems, and create impact remains at the heart of everything we do.

Grateful to contribute to a community that is shaping the future, one line of code at a time. -- Cathy

We are not just talking about impact. We are showing it.

5,000+ girls supported through education
500+ women trained in tech
85% employment rate for our graduates

This is what happens when opportunity meets intention.

But the vision is bigger. Scaling to 5,000 women by 2030. Expanding AI access. Reaching more underserved communities.

And we cannot do it alone.

We are looking for partners, funders, and collaborators who believe in building Africa’s future through women in tech.

If this speaks to you, let’s connect. Let’s build together.

This Women’s Month, let’s build the future of tech. 🌸

As we approach International Women’s Day, we’re reminded that giving girls a chance in tech isn't just about diversity, it's about economic empowerment.
Tech careers offer:
Independence: Access to global jobs and financial freedom.
Leadership: Moving from tech users to startup creators.
Impact: Diverse teams build better solutions for everyone.

Representation changes everything. When girls see women leading innovation, they know they can too. Let's empower the next generation of leaders.
