What is the criteria for those wanting to become a surrogate for a UK journey? ✅🇬🇧

📍Based in the UK
👩 Age should be 21 - 45 (dependent on journey)
👨‍⚕️Fit and healthy
🚭Non-smoker/vaper
🩺 BMI between 20 - 35

Remember the one where Ben gets a Barbie? 📺

Although this episode was filmed over 25 years ago, it raises a question that's still very poignant today: are we still confined and influenced by gender stereotypes, and how (if at all) does it impact our children?

In this episode of the hit show 'Friends', this idea is toyed with as Ben turns up with a new Barbie Doll, much to the distress of his father, Ross. Ben's mother, Carol, challenges Ross on his objection to his son playing with a typically 'feminine' toy, challenging the view that Ben's behaviour is being influenced by having two le***an mums.

There is often the misconception that children of LGBTQ+ parents turn out 'differently' or that the set-up of their family negatively impacts their identity.

As well as there being no evidence to support this, we must ask ourselves how these gender stereotypes still trickle into the lives and treatment of the diverse families being built today. 💭

A child who is supported and encouraged to be themselves, however that looks, is a child who is loved.

Perhaps that’s the real takeaway: not what toys children play with, but how freely they are allowed to explore who they are without shame, limitation, or expectation.

Maybe the question isn’t whether Ben should play with a Barbie, it’s why it was ever seen as a problem in the first place. 🌈

Science confirms what many of us already know: LGBTQ+ families are thriving. 💛

Research spanning 50+ years consistently shows that children raised by LGBTQ+ parents often excel in areas such as emotional function, behaviour and cognitive functioning.

Swipe through to see what the research actually says 👉

Studies like these are not about comparison. They are about validating the right of millions of families to love and exist freely. 🌈

They also confirm that the biggest risk to all of us has always been division and stigma and never who or how we love. 💛

What do all of these questions have in common?⁉️

They minimise the parental role based on the route people took to parenthood.

Parents of children conceived through surrogacy or donor conception often face unique comments, questions, and assumptions about their family, genetics, and legitimacy.

We all deserve to make our own rules and boundaries around what we are willing to discuss.

For some, questions are more than welcome and conversation can create greater understanding. However, your delivery and wording can have an incredible impact.

Families created through fertility treatment are no less valid and should never be made to feel so. 💜

Did you know that our CEOs, Michael and Wes, first met at Birmingham Pride? 🏳️‍🌈

By complete chance, the two met at the festival in June 2012 and immediately knew they’d met the one for them.

Four months later, they were engaged, and later married in August 2014. 💒

It was 2015 that saw the beginning of their journey into egg donation and surrogacy, taking the first steps towards growing their family of three, including Wes’s daughter Katie (21), into a busy, beautiful family of 6 with the addition of Talulah (9), Duke (6), and Otto (8 months).

Pride isn’t just a month in the calendar. For our founders and many others in the LGBTQ+ community, it’s a celebration of identity and love, and a time to reflect on progress. 💭

Happy Pride Month everyone! 🌈 Let’s use this time to reflect, learn, and celebrate the beautiful diversity of people, couples, and families in our community. Here’s to championing love in all its forms! 💫

"There are certain women in this world who just know they can be a surrogate."

That was true of Sophie's best friend, Emiliana, and is true for women all over the world who choose to carry a child for someone else.

We understand that there are concerns around surrogate bonds and what it might mean for the long-term relationship with intended parents and children involved.

However, those who choose to become surrogates at My Surrogacy Journey are fully aware of the role they play in giving the gift of parenthood.

When surrogacy is approached with clarity and respect, there are no blurred lines: just a joint commitment to creating a family. 💛

If you've been considering being a surrogate yourself, we'd love to talk to you. Book a free chat 💬: https://bit.ly/4edyURl

Today, we’re chatting with Kay, our Head of Global Strategy, Policy and Ethics, about the difference between gestational and traditional surrogacy. 🤰

It’s an important distinction, with each type of surrogacy differing depending on the existence of a genetic link to the surrogate.

At My Surrogacy Journey, the journeys we support are gestational, meaning the intended parents who embark on our pathways are either using their own gametes or have sought out donor eggs or s***m to create their embryos. 🧬

This then means that surrogates supporting them on this journey do not possess the DNA of the child they are carrying, which is often a more popular choice for both surrogates and intended parents.

In 2015, our founders, Michael and Wes, began a surrogacy journey of their own.

That path led them to two incredible surrogates, the first named Caroline, who is the reason Talulah (9) and Duke (6) could be brought into the world and this loving family.

It was on their first two surrogacy journeys with Caroline that Wes and Mike grew to see how beautiful surrogacy can be and how the bonds forged on this journey are unlike any other. 🔗

It takes an ecosystem of incredible people to make surrogacy happen. Shoutout to Caroline, her partner Dave and the rest of her family for all they have brought to our founders' lives. 💜
