The Islands Book Trust are delighted to announce the publication and local launch of ‘Between the Echoes’ at Ravenspoint on Monday at 7.30. This is a compelling and sensitive new book by Angus Macmillan, the well-known Lewis-born poet and writer, and member of The Lochies folk group. It describes his upbringing in the Gaelic-speaking crofting village of Lemreway, viewed through the prisms of the four elements – earth, air, fire and water – to explore how we come to understand a sense of place, home and belonging. The lived experiences he so beautifully evokes through poetic narratives are then viewed from psychological and philosophical perspectives which speak to universal concerns about social cohesion that resonate beyond the boundaries of the islands: the lures and traps of nostalgia – what we can and cannot return to, in the context of social change and the passage of time.
The book is available price £12.50 (plus P and P) from .org

Sad news today. Our very own Donald Macrae passed away. Born at 6 Habost in 1941 and later moved to Kershader before leaving as many did to find work in Glasgow. A stalwart of the Park Bar and popular at many venues all over Scotland he was loved by many.

Lovely event on Saturday organised by The Pairc Trust following on from our earlier Kershader event. The Pairc Landscape Project and a lovely group of dedicated ladies produced this amazing wall hanging featuring a map of the Pairc Villages which includes individual tapestries relating to each village and even the road (an Rathad) is a crochet weaving through the villages. It’s a remarkable piece of work even featuring imbedded recordings about the relationship between landscape and community and will hang in the Pairc Trust offices in the Resource Centre. The presentation on the day included a film featuring the story of seaweed narrated by the children of Pairc School with drone footage by Jan Schouten. A nice booklet to commemorate the event was also produced by Catherine Muir who project managed the whole event. Another great community event with nice food by Denise Wilson and others
