A friendly (and Friendly!) wee group, we meet twice monthly in Lochgilphead, and welcome newcomers to join us in silent worship or for a cup of tea afterwards.

If you have an interest in Quaker matters, British Yearly Meeting is currently recruiting in Scotland for a Local Development Worker. This role will support Quaker communities in Scotland (three similar roles are being created south of the border) to develop inclusive, welcoming, and adaptable Meetings.

The Retreat in York is offering funding for six remote therapy sessions to Quakers and people with Quaker connections. The information is at that link - consider looking into this if you're struggling with your mental health at this difficult time.

"I am so very, very grateful. It's not just the money itself, crucial though it is. After the rejections from a failing mental health system, it is just being accepted that my needs are actually real and treatable means so very, very much. Please thank them from the bottom of my heart."

Argyll Quaker Meeting stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and protests against inequality and injustice around the world.

As Quakers, it is our duty to support the protesters, to listen to the lived experiences of people of colour, and to give what help we can to the fight for justice, not only for George Floyd, but for the countless other victims of a system rooted in oppression, racism, and violence. These things should be antithetical to our principles of peace, equality, and integrity.

At our Business Meeting this afternoon, we discussed how we, as a Meeting of white people based in out-of-the-way places, can best support and uphold the protest action of people of colour against this unjust system. The comments to this post will include resources which Friends, and anyone else, can use to educate themselves on the politics behind the protests, to provide financial and practical support to the black communities most affected by this turmoil, and to support the Black Lives Matter protest action directly.

This information is only what I could find, and is absolutely not exhaustive or complete. Please feel free to contribute other resources you may have come across.

As always, we welcome anyone to join us for worship. Just message this page or contact Ed for info.

Quaker Faith & Practice (2.11) tells us "True worship may be experienced at any time, in any place - alone on the hills or in busy daily life" - or, presumably, in social distancing. Although Meeting is unable to physically meet during the current crisis, we can still hold space for each other, and for Quaker worship. We can try to find pockets of silence in our daily life, and get some comfort and strength in those moments of reflection.

We also have the advantage of the internet, and Woodbrooke in Birmingham hold regular online Meetings for Worship. Details of these Meetings can be found here:

Join us for Woodbrooke online worship at various times throughout the week. We offer 30 minute worship on Wednesday and Friday via Adobe Connect. We use Zoom for our other meetings throughout the week

In light of the current recommendations for infection control, we're looking at how to go forwards with Meetings in Argyll. Seems pretty clear that meeting in the Parish Hall will no longer be appropriate. More updates as they come!
