🔴 October is , and this year’s theme is Reclaiming The Narratives.
At PathLab Support CIC, we are proud to partner with six local organisations to amplify patient stories and reclaim the narrative around Sickle Cell Disease and blood donation.
📢 Through the Liverpool City Region Blood Donation Awareness Project, we’ve joined forces with Grace Wellness CIC, One Wirral CIC, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Support Group, and GraceHola Ltd. This project, funded by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), aims to:
🩸 Raise awareness of Sickle Cell Disease through lived patient experiences and various campaigns.
🩸 Promote blood donation registration and the recruitment of local champions across the Liverpool City Region.
In collaboration with Wonderfully Made Woman, we recently held a radio interview at Allfm 96.9 in Manchester, sharing powerful patient stories and emphasising the critical need for blood donors—especially those from Black communities—to support those living with this life-threatening condition.
We are grateful to Mr Alhagi Alieu Fatty for sharing his impactful lived experience patient story, and also to the Wonderfully Made Woman Team Manchester for the radio interview opportunity. Your support is making a real difference!
Why is this important? 🩸
👉🏾 NHSBT urgently needs more Black heritage blood donors to meet the increasing demand for Sickle Cell treatment.
👉🏾 Ro subtype blood is the best-matched blood needed to treat Sickle Cell patients.
👉🏾 People of African and Caribbean descent are ten times more likely to have Ro subtype blood.
If you are well and able, please consider giving blood to support NHSBT’s quest for blood donation and make a life-changing impact in our community.
