Could you spare an hour a week to make a difference to a local carer?

Many unpaid carers can feel isolated or overwhelmed, and sometimes all they need is a friendly voice at the end of the phone.

Our Knowsley Carers Hub CHAT Line connects registered carers with volunteers for a regular weekly chat. Whether it's talking through a challenging week, sharing a laugh, or chatting about the latest episode of Coronation Street, these conversations can make a real difference.

As a CHAT Line volunteer, you'll be matched with a carer for a weekly check-in, helping to boost confidence, improve wellbeing and reduce loneliness.

Are you caring for someone? Make sure your GP knows. 💙

If you regularly support a family member, friend or neighbour because of illness, disability, mental ill health or older age, you may be an unpaid carer.

Telling your GP surgery about your caring role can make a real difference. Many practices have a carers register and can provide information, support and advice to help you look after your own health and wellbeing too.

As a carer, it's easy to put someone else's needs first, but your health matters just as much.

✅ Let your GP know you're a carer
✅ Ask if your practice has a carers register
✅ Find out what support may be available to you

Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. Taking care of yourself is an important part of caring for others.

Over the past few months, we've seen carers getting out and about, trying new activities, making new connections and taking some well-deserved time for themselves.

From social groups and wellbeing activities to opportunities to meet other carers who understand, it's been fantastic to see so many people building friendships, boosting their wellbeing and enjoying a break from their caring role.

Funding Available to Support Unpaid Carers in Knowsley

Are you part of a voluntary organisation or community group that makes a difference in your local community?

The Carers Community Grant Fund is now open, offering grants of £250 to £3,000 for projects and activities that benefit unpaid carers across Knowsley.

By working together, we can help carers access more support, build connections and improve wellbeing in communities across the borough.

One carer recently told us:

"I wasn't aware of the advice I was given, and everything was made clear as to what we were entitled to. We are very grateful. We spoke to a very friendly and helpful member of your staff, we couldn't be more pleased."
