From last month’s Myeloma Awareness Evening.

A GP and an A&E consultant reflect on key learnings from the session. Including the challenge of vague presentations and the patient impact of diagnostic uncertainty.

Merseyside Against Blood Cancers facilitates these events to bring healthcare professionals together.

Encouraging shared learning, open discussion, and the identification of gaps that can shape future education.

Education and awareness saves lives ❤️

Final day of 💙

Too many people are still diagnosed late.
Too many lives are still affected.

That’s why awareness and research, must continue.

The month may be over, but this isn’t the end.

Final week of Minute for Myeloma 💙

MABC Trustee Elaine shares her personal experience of living with multiple myeloma, a powerful reminder that awareness is about people, not just diagnoses.

Every story matters. Every voice helps.

Myeloma isn’t yet curable, but it is treatable, and with continued research, more stories are being shaped by hope.

Thank you for being part of this conversation.

Week 4: Treatments 💛

This week, Trustee Emily talks through treatment options for Myeloma.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. From chemotherapy and targeted therapies to stem cell transplants, treatment is tailored to each individual.

Advances in care mean more options and more hope than ever before.

👉 If you’re concerned about symptoms or have questions, speak to your GP or healthcare team.

Week 3 of Minute for Myeloma 💜

This week, trustee Michaela Riches shares why awareness truly matters.

Myeloma symptoms can often be mistaken for everyday issues — meaning too many people are diagnosed late. The more we talk about it, the more lives we can help change.

Take a minute. Learn the signs. Share the message.
Because awareness isn’t just information — it’s impact.

09/03/2026

Week 2 of our Minute for Myeloma series focuses on something really important: recognising the symptoms.

Myeloma can be difficult to spot because many of the signs can look like everyday health problems, especially as we get older. But if symptoms persist, it’s important to get them checked.

Some of the most common symptoms include:

• Persistent back or bone pain – particularly in the back, ribs or hips• Ongoing fatigue or unusual tiredness• Repeated infections or taking longer than usual to recover• Unexplained weakness• Bone fractures or bones that seem to break more easily

These symptoms don’t always mean myeloma, but they shouldn’t be ignored if they continue or worsen.

Awareness helps people get the support and treatment they need sooner.

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and speak to your GP.

⏰ ONE minute. ONE message. A whole month of awareness.

We’re launching My Minute for Myeloma today with , Patron of MABC.

Roger starts us off by answering a simple but important question:

What is myeloma?

It’s a type of blood cancer that many people still haven’t heard of — and that’s exactly why awareness matters.

Take one minute to learn.Take one minute to share.Take one minute for myeloma. ❤️💜

Did you know how many types of blood cancer there are?

Reflecting on the festive season, we’re so grateful for the opportunity to bring a little extra cheer to patients across Merseyside. 🎁✨

All 80 of our care packages, lovingly prepared by MABC trustees at home, made their way to hospital wards thanks to a fleet of trustees — and even a 5ft trolley! Delivered with love to nurses, who then passed them on to blood cancer patients, these packages truly helped spread the magic of Christmas.

This project was made possible thanks to the generous support of LCVS, and we’re incredibly grateful for their funding and belief in the importance of bringing comfort and care to blood cancer patients when it matters most.

Here’s what some of the recipients had to say:

💬 PATIENT – “Thank you so much for the care pack at Christmas. I was an inpatient 12 Dec to 15 Jan for a stem cell transplant. The pack was very welcome, especially with having restricted visitors.”

💬 PATIENT’S WIFE – “Thank you for the care pack you put together for Christmas Day for my husband. He hadn’t wanted to celebrate Christmas as he wants to do it when he comes home, but when the pack arrived it gave him a lift that he wasn’t expecting. Thank you so much — it was lovely to see a smile on his face at a time when there hasn’t been much to smile about.”

A heartfelt thank you to LCVS, our trustees, and everyone who helped make this possible — your support helped brighten so many festive moments. ❤️

At the MABC Winter Ball, we celebrated the vital role that research and education play in transforming outcomes for people affected by blood cancer.

Pictured above is Professor Cathy Montgomery (Liverpool John Moores University) who shared her thoughts at the Winter Ball, on why it is so important to invest in scientific research.

“This research doesn’t happen by chance — it takes time, talent and crucially, investment.” Working in partnership with the University of Liverpool, NHS colleagues, charities and communities, research teams are helping to “train the next generation of scientists and researchers and deliver innovative treatments and interventions for blood cancers.”

By supporting Merseyside Against Blood Cancers, donors are “funding discovery” — from enabling PhD students to run essential experiments, to helping research teams test new therapies and expand access to clinical trials that offer hope.

“Every major advance in blood cancer treatment began as an idea in a lab,” Professor Montgomery said. “Every one of those ideas needed someone to believe in it.”

Thank you to Professor Cathy Montgomery for championing the importance of research — a big thank you everyone who supports MABC and to both LJMU and University of Liverpool for both so brilliantly helping ideas become life-changing advances. ❤️
