Friends of Garston Park

Friends of Garston Park The Friends of Garston Park are a close community group of local residents whose sole aim is to promote, conserve and help develop your local park.

We are a local non-profit group based in Garston, Liverpool. We formed to help improve and maintain our local park. Throughout the year, we run various events and fundraisers to help raise money for the park. We do this for the community, and anyone within the local area and beyond, to make sure our park is the best it can be. We want to keep Garston Park as somewhere people are happy to visit, wh

ether that’s a quick walk with the dog, or an afternoon playing sports on the field. Your help and interest is greatly appreciated, the group is for everyone who wants to be involved and play a part in making our community the best it can be.

Someone has lost their house keys on the park.
It’s just two house keys and an alley gate key.
If any are found can you let me know please?

Thank you

Another great bat walk last night. Thank you to everyone who came. And especially to Laura Carter and Paul Sutter from Liverpool Council for sharing their experience and knowledge relating to the bats. Plenty were seen and even better being able to hear them using bat detectors just like this one in the photo. Look out for more events next month 😀

Some useful information everyone

As the weather improves, it is helpful to think about helping our parks wildlife. Here are some hints and tips for whilst you’re out and about.

🦠 To help stop the spread of disease, remember: ‘feed seasonally, feed safely’. During summer and autumn (1st May - 31 October) there are more natural foods available so wildlife can find what they need more often.

🦆 Bread is okay in small quantities for ducks but you might want to think about other foods such as sweetcorn, oats, peas and seeds. Some of our sites have cafes that often sell duck feed too!

🦔 Leaving out small pots of water for animals such as hedgehogs, whose water source may be dry, or need a little extra in the heat

🦋 Leaving flowers and plants in our parks for the butterflies, bees and other insects as a food source.

🌽 Not leaving out food or scraps in the parks, whilst these can be good for some animals, it can be dangerous for others. The wildlife will always find their food! It can also attract rats and other pests. During the warm weather these breakdown quicker and can cause other animals to become unwell.

🚮 Popping your rubbish in the bins, or taking it home if they’re full to help keep our parks tidy and reduce to risk of the wildlife picking up something they shouldn’t.

🔥 Please no barbecues in the parks as these can cause damage to food sources for the wildlife and dangerous if they aren’t controlled.
