🌟 Volunteers’ Week – A Reflection from Gemma 🌟
When people think of volunteering, they often picture helping at events or giving up a few hours of their time. As Founder of SACHA, volunteering has meant so much more than that for me.
Over the years, I’ve worn many hats – organiser, fundraiser, project lead, administrator, social media manager, event coordinator, and sometimes even tea maker! While some projects provide funding for specific pieces of work, SACHA has been built on countless voluntary hours, a lot of determination, and a genuine passion for serving our community.
Like many grassroots leaders, I balance SACHA alongside work, family life and everyday responsibilities. It can be challenging, but seeing our community come together, hearing stories being shared, and watching people feel seen, valued and connected makes it all worthwhile.
I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together so far. From celebrating African and Caribbean heritage to preserving Windrush stories and creating opportunities for learning and wellbeing, every step has been powered by people who care.
As we continue to grow and work towards becoming a registered charity, I'm excited to welcome new volunteers, supporters and trustees who can help shape SACHA's future.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey so far. Community isn't built by one person – it's built by all of us.
💜 Happy Volunteers’ Week!
