CLUB LAYOUT: BYFIELD π
Byfield was a small through station in Northamptonshire on the Stratford and Midland Junction Railway. This line linked the Midland (St Pancras) main line south of Wellingborough to the GWR at Stratford on Avon, with connections to the LNWR (Euston) at Blisworth and the Great Central at Woodford Halse.
Byfield had very productive iron ore quarries, active until 1965, with their own independent railway and exchange sidings. It was mostly single track, and in BR days the line was heavily used for freight. Engines from ex-LMS, ex-GWR, and ex-LNER all worked through Byfield, including 9Fβs and WD Austerities.
The model is OO gauge and controlled by DCC, with all engines sound-fitted. John has modelled Byfield as a terminus, but the station itself is accurate, along with the quarry engine shed and the unusual weighbridge with interlaced tracks. The layout has been slightly condensed, with a sawmill siding added to create more varied freight workings.
π°οΈ The layout is set in the late 1950s during British Railways days.
