Our response to the recent BBC article on 15th April 2026 - LGBTQ+ people seeking asylum;

At Sahir House, we are deeply concerned by the findings of the recent BBC investigation into alleged fraudulent asylum claims based on sexual orientation.

While any misuse of the asylum process must be addressed, it is vital that this narrative does not overshadow the lived realities of LGBTQ+ people seeking safety. Many of those we support have fled persecution, violence, and criminalisation simply for being who they are.

Each day, we witness the courage it takes to seek asylum and the immense challenges faced throughout that journey - navigating trauma, isolation, and disbelief. Heightened scrutiny risks compounding these harms, creating further obstacles to protection for those most in need.

It is crucial to remember that the allegations concern a minority of individuals and do not reflect the integrity, care, and professionalism shown by the many legal practitioners and organisations who empower LGBTQ+ people to seek justice safely.

Sahir House remains steadfast in our commitment to stand alongside LGBTQ+ people seeking asylum - advocating for systems rooted in dignity, fairness, and compassion.

Pride is more than a celebration, it’s about visibility, unity, and creating safe, joyful spaces for our community. And now, you have the chance to help shape what Liverpool Pride 2026 could look like.
