What does volunteering mean to you? πŸ€”

Whether you currently volunteer, have volunteered in the past, or have never volunteered, we want to hear your honest views and experiences via our survey. Your feedback will help shape a new Volunteering Strategy for the Wirral, ensuring it reflects the needs and perspectives of communities across the borough.

Responses are completely anonymous and take no more than 8 minutes to complete, but responses greatly help us understanding how we can develop to support volunteering, now and in the future.

πŸ“’ Help shape the future of volunteering in Wirral!

Over the last few months, Wirral CVS has been speaking to volunteers, Volunteer Managers, community organisations and partners to better understand the opportunities and challenges facing volunteering across the borough.

The insights gathered so far will help shape a new Wirral Volunteering Strategy, but before we move into the next stage of development, we want to check that we have heard the right things and identify the issues that matter most.

With that, we would like to invite you to our Wirral Volunteering Strategy Kickstart Event, where we'll bring together people from across the voluntary, community, faith, social enterprise, public and private sectors, alongside volunteers and residents, to begin co-producing the strategy.

Date: Friday 18th September
Time: 9:30am – 1:00pm
Location: Make Hamilton, Birkenhead

Tomorrow, we continue our Digital Foundations for the VCFSE programme with a practical session on branding. These sessions are designed for those working in the sector tasked with social media and marketing roles on top of their primary duties who would benefit from hints, tips and guidance on how to use their time effectively.

Attendees will explore how colours, fonts, imagery and tone can create a clear and consistent organisational identity, alongside important accessibility considerations. We’ll also introduce Canva and support participants to begin creating a basic brand kit for their organisation.

We look forward to welcoming everyone taking part from 1pm to 3pm! πŸ’» You can find the registration link below, with Teams links sent out to attendees before the session: https://book.plinth.org.uk/e/jkzPJOgTNoJCNoY6tEMm

Today our Volunteering Team attended training by Cheshire West Voluntary Action and North West Probation services to learn more about supporting volunteers with criminal convictions. It was great to see a range of organisations from Cheshire and Wirral come together and talk about ways to be more inclusive, and hear real lived experience of the impact of volunteering for those who have been part of the criminal justice system.

Thank you to Michael and Mark for such an insightful morning!

Wirral Organisations - if you'd like to have this training locally- let us know!

Employment law is changing, and charities, community groups, faith organisations and social enterprises should be preparing now.

In this latest blog, our Chief Executive Gareth Prytherch outlines what voluntary organisations need to know about the Employment Rights Act 2025, including changes to Statutory Sick Pay, parental leave, harassment protections, employment tribunal time limits, record keeping and future reforms expected in 2026 and 2027.

Here's a look back on the COP just gone at Wirral Mind, as we gear up for the next one in a week's time!

Plenty of speakers took part and shared some great updates from their organisations, including Wirral Foodbank, Friends of New Brighton Marine Lake, Open Door Charity and more. Attendees also had a good opportunity to discuss and answer questions relating to Asset Based Community Development and find common ground with other groups in working group exercises.

Next week's COP meeting will be held at Birkenhead Salvation Army from 10am, and you can register today at the link below πŸ‘‡

The final spotlight of Small Charity Week is the Byrne Avenue Trust, who despite managing a sizeable asset in the Byrne Avenue Baths, are an organisation who rely on a fantastic group of volunteers to support their efforts of regeneration in Rock Ferry.

On Volunteers' Week earlier this month, we went by to join them for the volunteer celebration they held, supported by our Shout About Volunteering micro grants. We spoke to Jane and Chelsea, as well as seen all the great work the volunteers over there are doing regularly and the local community they're supporting.

Whether it's Small Charity Week, Volunteers' Week or the other 50 weeks of the year, Wirral CVS is here for charities and community groups of all sizes! Head to our website to find the best support and resources for your organisation: https://www.wcvs.org.uk/support

Small Charity Week is a great time to think about how Employer-Supported Volunteering (ESV) can make a real difference for small charities.

Done well, ESV is about much more than a one-day volunteering opportunity. It can help charities access valuable skills, build lasting relationships with local businesses and create meaningful impact for the communities they support.

In our latest blog, we explore:
βœ”οΈ How to make ESV meaningful
βœ”οΈ Why skills-based volunteering can have the greatest impact
βœ”οΈ The hidden costs of managing volunteering
βœ”οΈ Building long-term partnerships with employers

To continue the conversation, we're hosting Employer-Supported Volunteering: In Conversation on Wednesday 29th July, bringing together local VCFSE organisations and employers to explore how ESV can deliver greater value for communities, charities and businesses alike.
