Tuesday was another session of our Emergency First Aid at Work training, where volunteers from Age UK Wirral Liverpool & Sefton, Weapons Down Wirral CIC and more organisations across the Wirral were able to learn more about supporting colleagues or clients with health emergencies from the St John Ambulance Wirral team.

The training courses are a great example of how important not only celebrating volunteers can be, especially during Volunteers' Week, but ensuring volunteers have access to opportunities for developing skills, and we don't stop at Emergency First Aid! All of our volunteer training can be found on our website and Plinth, so if you're interested, have a look and sign up today: https://www.wcvs.org.uk/volunteering

This Volunteers' Week, we're also celebrating trustees, who are the volunteers that work behind the scenes to provide leadership, governance and accountability across the sector.

While they may not always be visible, trustees play a vital role in ensuring organisations stay focused on their purpose and continue making a lasting difference in our communities.

Read our latest article from Zel to learn more about these often unsung heroes and find out how you could become a trustee through our Volunteer Portal: 🔗https://www.wcvs.org.uk/post/celebrating-trustees-in-volunteers-week

"An entire ecosystem of support has been knitted together by thousands of generous volunteers acting out of sheer altruism. It should be a source of great pride for Wirral that so many residents have come together to forge this vast safety net, giving up the most precious and priceless resource they have: their time." ❤️

Fantastic words from Wirral Globe's article, which covers some of the Shout About Volunteering grant recipients this Volunteers' Week and the importance of each organisation's work in the community carried out by thousands of volunteers across the peninsula.

Earlier today, we hosted a gathering for recipients of our Shout About Volunteering micro grants for Volunteers' Week at Blooming Skull Coffee in Birkenhead.

Throughout next week, various community groups and organisations will be able to put events on for their volunteers, including coffee mornings, lunches and days out to celebrate the excellent work they do, week in and week out. We'll be providing recipients with thank you cards, cake toppers and bunting for their celebrations and can't wait to see what fantastic events attendees will put on!

Have you got anything happening during Volunteers Week? If so, let us know! It's going to be a great week and we look forward to seeing so many groups celebrating their volunteers ☺️

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, we want to recognise the importance of supporting the wellbeing of those working across the VCFSE sector to support others.

Volunteer managers and community teams work incredibly hard to support people across Wirral. While that work is rewarding, it can also bring pressure, emotional demand and the risk of burnout.

That’s why we’ve partnered with Next Chapter CIC to deliver a coaching-led Burnout Prevention and Wellbeing Programme for people who support volunteers across Wirral.

This programme has been designed specifically with volunteer management roles in mind and will provide:

• practical tools to manage workload and boundaries
• personalised strategies to support your wellbeing
• opportunities for reflection and peer support
• follow-up coaching sessions to help embed learning

There are still a few places available. All the details of the programme are in the flyer attached, and on our website.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, an important time to reflect on the excellent charities and organisations with services designed to support people across the Wirral with their mental health.

A big theme of this year's Awareness week is about action alongside awareness, and organisations on the Wirral are taking action every single day to support their communities as well as their own staff and volunteers, which we can't thank them for enough.

In terms of our own actions to support good mental health in the community, we are holding a safeTALK su***de prevention training course this Thursday for any volunteers of Wirral based organisations who wish to learn more about engaging with people during a crisis and support them effectively. There's still spaces available, so if you or a volunteer you work with could be interested, head to the link below to sign up: https://book.plinth.org.uk/e/CxeJuHr3PrJSpfnGOphW

Additionally, if anyone within the VCFSE is struggling with their mental health, we along with plenty of mental health charities are here to help. Feel free to reach out to be signposted the right services for you, or even just for a quick chat about how you're feeling. 💜

It's a week before the next COP on the 6th May at Church at the Cross, so here's a look back at the last one, which saw over 40 people come together for a fun-packed and engaging get together at Christ Church in Bebington.

Chris Shaw opened the meeting by highlighting the pivotal impact of the COP and the founding principles of Asset Based Community Development, and after some valuable updates from Phoenix Packs , Wirral Environmental Network, Alzheimer's Society and the Open Door Charity, Abi from Collective Encounters delivered a short but deeply moving workshop. This marks the beginning of an ongoing journey to help ABCD feel truly rooted in our communities.

The session was concluded with a quick round-robin, where attendees shared brief updates, followed by some much-valued time for networking, connection and building new friendships.

You can book on to next week's session by heading over to Plinth via this link 👉 https://book.plinth.org.uk/e/YSmHmSMcSGx6wn2F1gDb

If you would like to speak at the next COP, please contact Mark at [email protected].

Two months on, and no we still can't get over all the fun of FestiVol! 😁

Here's a quick look back on Wirral's biggest volunteer celebration event with a fantastic video made thanks to local filmmaker Ethan Doyle, as he talked to plenty in attendance including volunteers, volunteer managers and our Volunteer Programme Manager, Jen about the importance of an event celebrating and recognising local volunteers.

You can find this as well as pictures, feedback and more on our website (which has been updated recently, so feel free to have a browse!): https://www.wcvs.org.uk/volunteering/festivol

Jen has also wrote a blog summarising the day with some key insight on how it went from an ambitious plan in September of last year to the fantastic party it turned out to be. Read more by clicking the link 👉 https://www.wcvs.org.uk/post/a-look-back-on-festivol
