The first Women’s Institute (WI) meeting took place 110 years ago at Llanfair PG, on Anglesey, North Wales.

The Women’s Institute (WI) was formed during the First World War to revitalise rural communities and help increase the supply of food to the war-torn nation by encouraging women across the country to get involved with growing and preserving food.

The Women’s Institute Memorial at the Arboretum is a curving dry stone wall with seats facing in two directions, one side looking out at the River Tame and the other along the beautiful meadow planted with poppies and wildflowers.

Our WI has been around for over 100 years, and we would love it to continue. New members are always welcome, I have heard people say it's just for retired people.... it really isn't!
True enough, the majority of our group are retired, but YOU could change the demographic.
Our next meetings are Wednesday 17th September and Wednesday 19th October. 7.15pm - 9.15pm
Before you join, we invite you to 2 meetings FOC.
Subscription is currently £48 (subsidised by our group for our members)
We have a meeting every month, & sub groups during the month, but your membership doesn't stop there, we join other local WI groups (4 meetings plus each year) there are also county and national events too. What might surprise you and is currently underused by our group is the free education opportunities that are available.
All for the price of your membership.
If you have read this far, then thank you, I appreciate the post is long, for more information contact me direct
[email protected] or just come along.
FYI
WI stands for Women's Institute
The Women's Institute is based on the idea of bringing women together, providing them with educational opportunities and the chance to make a difference in their communities. Therefore, the WI is set up as an educational charity with a constitution which states that membership is only open to women. From www.thewi.org.uk

Spent a lovely morning at an NGS garden this morning with 12 of our members. Beautiful garden with historical information too.
At first the garden appeared quite small, with some magnificent trees towering above, creating good shade, though must also have a great thirst. The owners have developed quite a magical feel to the space available. Expertly hidden within the garden arrangement, there was not a shed or preparation space to be seen. A vast collection of flora, and just when you thought there could be no more fitted in, another suprise opened up around the corner.
Equally good was the cream tea, beautiful presented, with the most delicious freshly made scones.
This is our second NGS visit, and we will certainly do more, a lovely opportunity for our group to meet, and enjoy time together, whilst gathering ideas for our own gardens.
