Battle 500 in the Falkirk Herald!
On the 16th of June 2026, Arran Johnston rode the Marches flying the metaphorical flag for Battle 500!

The marches involve riding out to the Bridge Inn at Linlithgow Bridge, to check the Burgh's Western most boundary.
Not far downstream from where the Battle itself took place nearly 500 years ago on the 4th of September 1526.

We have had the history lesson about the lead up to the Battle of Linlithgow Bridge, with all the characters and episodes that could make a great six-part Netflix series… but what was it like to live through the years of conflict in the early 16th Century, both at home as a civilian onlooker or as a soldier in the ranks of the opposing armies?
Dr Jon Cooper takes us through the basic guide to survival in a world of chaos and battle across Scotland and Europe. He will discuss the process of enlistment, the type of warfare you would be expected to participate in, the enemy you may be asked to confront and the consequences of surviving the conflict … or not.
Be warned – it’s a gruesome subject, but only when you understand the nature of warfare can you really appreciate what played out along the banks of the River Avon in September 1526.
As numbers may be large and space is limited, this is a FREE ticketed event. A voluntary donation can be made at the event.

Oh what a night! Thank you to everyone who came to our quiz at Linlithgow Bowling Club. And special thanks to David Paterson for being a quiz-master extraordinaire!
We raised nearly £1,000 towards all the special events being organised as part of the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Linlithgow Bridge.
And, thanks to all who donated prizes – they include , Champany Inn, New Hopetoun Gardens - Edinburgh, Low Port Music, Far From The Madding Crowd Linlithgow, Taste Deli Cafe, Tesco, Rotary Club of Linlithgow Grange, SNP Councillor Pauline Orr, Linlithgow Ward and Kirsteen Sullivan for Bathgate and Linlithgow.
