Climate Café Shetland

Tonight! 📢 Come along to hear from those 9 community groups as they share what they’ve been up to, challenges and achievements, and how their projects have made a difference in their communities 💚

We're looking forward to our Climate Action Ting Celebration with Climate Café Shetland tomorrow night, and we'd love to see you there! 🥳

Earlier this year we were delighted to support Climate Action Ting, a Green Participatory Budgeting project, which empowered Shetland residents to choose 9 community groups to receive funding to deliver climate action projects. 🌿

Tomorrow night we're coming together to hear from those 9 community groups as they share what they’ve been up to, challenges and achievements, and how their projects have made a difference in their communities. If you're in Shetland, it's a great opportunity to come along and celebrate what these community groups have achieved. 👏

It'll be hosted on Thursday 1st October at Islesburgh Community Centre in Room 12 from 6.30pm-8.00pm. The full event information can be found on our website - https://hiclimatehub.co.uk/event-listing/climate-action-ting-celebration 💚

🌱 Climate Café is back! ☕️

After our summer break, Climate Café Shetland is back on Thursday 3 September, and we’re kicking things off with a conversation about the Lerwick Community Fridge.

Volunteers who run the fridge will tell us about the benefits of the project; from reducing food waste to making good-quality food more affordable. They’ll also share an update on how the project is progressing and how we can get involved.

As usual, there’ll be food, drinks and plenty of time for a chat. Come along, find out more, and meet others interested in climate action and our community.

Chris Packham has created a petition calling on the UK government to hold a UK-wide briefing on climate and nature risks. You can add your signature at the link below!

The UK faces growing risks from climate and nature breakdown - from extreme weather to economic disruption and national security threats. Yet the public has never been given a clear national briefing on the scale of these risks. Government should hold an emergency briefing from leading experts.

These risks could have serious consequences across UK society, with threats to health and food supply - which could become irreversible if without urgent action. Many people are unclear how these risks may affect them, and information in the public domain is often misleading.

A credible national briefing from independent experts would give people clear, trusted guidance on what these risks mean in practice, and what we can do - both together and individually - to prepare and respond.
