Founded in June 2012 following the personal experience of friends affected by Cancer, Andy and Sally Anderson decided to start a charity to raise funds for the refurbishment of the 'patient and friends' areas of the Oncology Unit at the LRI. Their concern was that when enduring Cancer treatment, people should feel encouraged and uplifted by their surroundings. Their focus centered on the individua

Through fundraising events as diverse as open gardens, santa strolls, and treadmill challenges in Sainsburys, GEMS has since raised over £100,000 and have used the money to transform areas of the Oncology Unit, creating lounges, providing furniture, and developing outside seating areas. Many people have joined and supported the GEMS cause, because it provides practical, tangible and visible help where it's needed most. There is no limit to what we can do when we work together!
