🌊 LOOKING BACK ON OUR SUMMER AT LEICESTER NAVY CADETS! 🚤

As summer draws to a close, we’re looking back at a fantastic boating season packed with new experiences, new qualifications and plenty of time on the water!

🛶 Junior Cadets got stuck into kayaking and paddleboarding, while earning their Competent Crew badges during our Boating Camp.

⚓ Naval Cadets continued developing their skills on the water, working towards their Supervised Coxswain qualification and gaining valuable experience at the helm.

🚣 Marine Cadets swapped the field for the river, taking to the rowboat, learning new skills and earning their Competent Crew badges.

🚤 During Boating Camp, cadets also had the chance to helm our very own Wheelyboat, Lillibet, working towards and earning their Level 2 Powerboat qualifications!

👥 And it wasn’t just our cadets gaining new skills… Many of our adult volunteers gained new instructing qualifications this year, helping us expand the range of activities, skills and opportunities we can offer our cadets.

From kayaking and paddleboarding to rowing and powerboating, there’s always something new to learn at Leicester Navy Cadets.

Cadets from our Marine Detachment spent Thursday evening rowing through Watermead Country Park, developing their skills as they work towards their Supervised Coxswain and Competent Crew qualifications. 🚣

Meanwhile, cadets from our Naval Division spent the evening learning the basics of map reading and navigation 🗺️

🏕️ PEAK WEEK 2026!

After an action-packed week, our annual Marine Battle Camp has officially come to an end!

Our cadets were plunged into an immersive scenario, tasked with tracking down a brutal crime lord and uncovering his operations. The week was packed with challenges, teamwork and leadership, culminating in a dramatic attack on their own base camp!

It was fantastic to see how much every cadet developed throughout the week. From leading teams and making decisions under pressure to supporting one another when things got tough, everyone stepped up and played their part. 🤝

🌊 The week finished with a trip to Rutland Water Aqua Park, followed by a well-earned BBQ.

🏅 FIELD PROMOTIONS

Congratulations to MC Lister and MC Smith, who both earned a field promotion to Marine Cadet 1st Class (MC1) for their outstanding performance throughout the week.

A huge well done to every cadet who took part in Peak Week 2026. You should all be proud of what you achieved!

⚓️ Peak Week is getting closer, and it’s all systems go at Leicester Navy Cadets!

With the highlight of our Marine training programme just around the corner, the last fortnight has been spent making sure everyone is ready to go.

Kit checks have been in full swing… proving that someone will always forget a sleeping bag, someone else will pack enough snacks to feed the entire detachment, and at least one bergen will weigh the same as a small car! 😂

Training hasn’t slowed down either. Our Marine Cadets have been brushing up on key military skills, including the duties of a sentry, while our Naval Division have been getting their hands dirty in the field too!

Meanwhile, Recruit Forrester and Recruit Render have both successfully completed their Recruit Syllabus. A huge congratulations to them both on their well-earned promotion to Marine Cadet. They’ve tackled every challenge with enthusiasm, worked hard throughout their training, and should be proud of what they’ve achieved. 👏

Leicester Navy Cadets is open throughout the school holidays, and we’re welcoming new recruits! ⚓

If your child is aged 8 to 17, they can enjoy action-packed evenings, make new friends, build confidence, and learn skills they’ll carry with them for life.

What can they expect?

☀️ The summer holidays are almost here... and that means more people will be spending time on and around the water.

At Leicester Navy Cadets, water safety isn't just something we talk about, it's a fundamental part of everything we do. Every time our cadets get afloat, they're learning the skills, awareness, and respect needed to enjoy the water safely.

Please take a moment to read through this poster and share it with your family and friends. Knowing what to do before you go, how to react if you fall in, and how to help someone else safely could save a life.

🌊 Remember: Float to Live.
If you unexpectedly enter the water, fight your instinct to panic. Float on your back, relax, and call for help.

This morning, Leicester Navy Cadets were proud to take part in the Leicester Armed Forces Day Parade, joining organisations from across the city to celebrate our Armed Forces community. 🇬🇧⚓

Every one of our cadets represented the unit to the highest standard, and we’re incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves throughout the morning. Their turnout, drill and professionalism were a real credit to Leicester Navy Cadets.

A special well done to our Standard Bearers, who carried out their role with pride:

It was also a fantastic opportunity to meet and chat with members of Leicester’s Armed Forces community, from the Lord Lieutenant to the Executive Officer of HMS Daring, as well as so many veterans, serving personnel and fellow cadet organisations.

A huge thank you and well done to everyone who took part in the parade alongside us. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event! 💙

As part of Armed Forces Week, a group of our senior cadets were proud to attend the Royal Navy, Military & Social Club’s celebration evening.

Throughout the event, our cadets assisted with service and hospitality, demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and confidence. They also had the opportunity to spend time speaking with veterans, hearing firsthand about their experiences and service.

The evening provided a fantastic chance to engage with loval civic leaders, including the Lord Mayor Kulwinder Singh, gaining valuable insight into the importance of service, remembrance, and community.

A huge well done to all of the cadets who represented Leicester Navy Cadets so positively throughout the evening.

Earlier this year, severe flooding caused significant damage to two of our most important assets: our Bell Boat and safety boat. These craft have provided countless opportunities for young people across Leicester to learn, develop confidence, and gain skills on the water.
