Since 2006 STARS has been granted funding in the region of several hundred thousand pounds to deliver programmes predominantly in Leicester and Leicestershire. Over 10,000 young people have benefitted from taking part in programmes ranging from holiday courses, tournaments, trips, educational activities, and youth camps.
From August 2019 we have altered our direction to focus on young people and adults that have found themselves without a positive destination of employment, education or training. After successfully obtaining ESF funding through Futures we started delivering our new programme. Due to a number of factors including low self-esteem and confidence our ‘NEET to EET, Life After School’ programme provides regular 1-to-1 and small group activities engaging, building trust, and delivering a range of training modules geared towards employability. Couple this with well organised work experience and volunteering opportunities, we have demonstrated some really positive outcomes. To date [May 2020] we have worked with 8 individuals, 6 of whom have gained meaningful employment. We continue to work with the other 2 individuals.
