A DAY OF FUN, FRIENDSHIP, AND A BIT OF HEALTHY COMPETITION!
There’s something special about seeing young people relax, have fun, and simply enjoy being themselves.
That’s exactly what we saw at our recent Activity Day at Everington Youth Club in Leicester.
Our young people spent the day playing basketball, football, pool, and table tennis, with plenty of laughter and a bit of healthy competition along the way!
We finished with a sandwich lunch – as the planned BBQ had to be abandoned because of the drought.
For our mentors, it was about more than the activities. Spending time together away from the usual mentoring sessions gave them the chance to see different sides of the young people they support, chat, laugh and build those all-important relationships.
And one young person summed up their day rather brilliantly:
“That was cool, I was great at basketball!”
It might seem like a small moment, but these are the moments that matter. Positive experiences. Someone taking an interest. A young person feeling part of something. An adult they can trust.
That’s at the heart of what we’re trying to build through our Aspire Mentoring Project.
There’s lots more to look forward to, including regular football and boxing sessions, an adventure weekend in the Peak District and the launch of Next-Steps for 11–14-year-olds.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helps us create these opportunities for young people in our community.
If you’d like to support what we’re doing, please follow our page, share our posts, or get in touch to find out more.
Every bit of support helps us give more young people positive experiences and people they can rely on.
