Just in from our colleagues at RGS their 'Heroes' conference is to be held at the Royal Geographical Society, 3-4 October 2015. It is part of The Hero Project, supported by an AHRC ECR Developmental Funding Award, via the Care for the Future theme. We are looking at the historical contingency of the hero figure, and its role in the shaping of community and/or national identity. As you'll see from the attached programme, the conference panels are drawn from across the academic disciplines and beyond - for example, we're looking forward to hearing from a panel of curators about representing the changing fortunes of heroic reputations over time, and from a panel of writers and playwrights about the shaping of new hero figures on the page and in stage practice. The conference also includes the launch of an exhibition, 'Heroes of Exploration,' which is a showcase for the fascinating archives of the RGS, curated by The Hero Project.

***CALL FOR PROPOSALS***

We are now open to proposals for our VISITOR STUDIES GROUP CONFERENCE 2016 which will be held on 16th and 17th March 2016 at the Royal Geographical Society, London.

The theme for the conference is "Visitor Studies: It's what you do with it!"

We want the 2016 Conference to explore how to communicate research and evaluation findings internally and externally so that they lead to change, have real impact and lift the profile of visitor studies.

We welcome submissions from those who can share success stories with our delegates but also those submissions which provide honest accounts of where a study may not have gone as well as expected and where disseminating findings did not have the hoped-for impact. We can provide more intimate session formats if this feels more appropriate.

Please visit http://visitors.org.uk/call-for-proposals-2016/ for a proposal form and more detail of some of the issues we hope to address and proposal types we are looking for.

Final date for proposal submissions is Friday 18 September 2015.
