The Army Cadet Force (ACF) is a voluntary youth organisation for boys and girls between the ages of 12 (and in year 8 at school) and 18. Apart from a small team of full time employees, the adults who staff the ACF are volunteers; officers all hold the Queen's Commission, although they have no call-up commitment, the remaining adult instructors wear ranks ranging from Sergeant Instructor to Regimental Sergeant Major Instructor. National Cadets Week – Day Two: Cadets in the community

The Army Cadet Force is part of the communities it serves.

Across Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland, cadets have the opportunity to meet people, take part in local events, develop their skills and represent their communities with pride.

Earlier this year, more than 350 cadets and 80 adult volunteers came together at Loughborough Grammar School for Cadet Sunday – an event that brought cadets, families, supporters and community representatives together to celebrate achievement and the contribution of the Army Cadet Force.

Events like this show that being a cadet is about more than uniforms, parades and training. It is about people, friendships, confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging – and being part of the wider community.

That community connection is at the heart of what we do.

National Cadets Week starts today.

From 5–11 October, we’re joining cadet forces across the country to celebrate the contribution of cadets and adult volunteers and showcase what Army Cadets is all about.

Throughout the week we’ll be highlighting activities, skills, volunteering and opportunities from across Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland.

Royal Anglian Regimental Gathering

Last weekend, 117 cadets and adult volunteers from the County attended the Royal Anglian Regimental Gathering at Kendrew Barracks, joining fellow Army Cadets from across the Midlands and East Anglia.

The day provided a fantastic opportunity for our cadets to visit the home of the 1st and 2nd Battalions of The Royal Anglian Regiment and experience life within a working military unit.

Cadets took part in a drill competition against teams from other counties, achieving an impressive second place finish and narrowly missing out on first place by just 1.5 points. A fantastic achievement and a credit to everyone involved.

Throughout the day, cadets explored equipment displays, military vehicles, weapon systems, and emerging drone technology used by the Regiment. They also visited the Regimental Museum and had the opportunity to meet serving soldiers and veterans from across the Royal Anglian family.

The event concluded with a Drumhead Service and a ceremonial march past alongside Regular Soldiers and Veterans, making for a memorable experience and demonstrating the strong connection between the Army Cadet Force and the Regiment.

For many cadets, this was their first visit to a working Army unit and a valuable opportunity to learn more about military life, heritage, and service.

A huge thank you to The Royal Anglian Regiment for hosting such a fantastic event. We look forward to taking part in future opportunities together.

🎖️ Final Parade | Summer Camp 2026 🎖️

Today marked the formal conclusion of Summer Camp 2026 with the Final Parade, bringing together cadets, volunteers and staff to celebrate a week of achievement, challenge and personal development.

Throughout the parade, awards and presentations were made recognising the hard work, commitment and accomplishments of cadets across the camp. These included music awards, Cadet Forces Medals, Commandant's Commendations and Commandant's Coins, all reflecting the dedication and high standards demonstrated throughout the week.

Summer Camp provides opportunities for cadets to challenge themselves, develop new skills, build confidence and create lasting memories. The Final Parade offered a fitting opportunity to recognise those achievements and celebrate everything that has been accomplished.

Congratulations to all award recipients, and well done to every cadet who has taken part in making Summer Camp 2026 such a successful and memorable experience.

What a final day today has been! 💪

Summer Camp 2026 - Day 7 - Competition Day!

As Summer Camp begins to draw towards its conclusion, today's Competition Day gave cadets the chance to put everything they've learned and practised throughout the week into action.

From archery and drill to volleyball, rounders and a range of sporting activities, cadets competed with enthusiasm, supported one another and represented their detachments with pride.

The scores matter, but the friendships built, lessons learned and memories made will last far longer than any result sheet.

A huge well done to everyone who took part.

🧗‍♀️ 4-Star Adventure Training | Summer Camp 2026

Adventure Training is about more than reaching the top of a climbing wall.

It's about stepping outside your comfort zone, learning to trust your training, supporting your team, and discovering what you're capable of when faced with a challenge.

Earlier this week, our 4-Star Cadets took part in a demanding day of Adventure Training, testing both their confidence and determination on the rock face. From the first safety brief to the final climb, cadets demonstrated resilience, teamwork and a willingness to push themselves beyond what they thought possible.

Of course, it wasn't all serious faces and concentration. As these photos show, there were plenty of smiles, laughs and memorable moments throughout the day too!

Well done to all the cadets who took part and embraced the challenge.
