LNR ACF Tug Of War Team

LNR ACF Tug Of War Team https://armycadets.com/county/leicestershire-northamptonshire-and-rutland-acf/ We continue to build on our strengths and remain ACFA Champions.

The club started life as Leicesterand Northants ACF TOW Club and was formed in 1994 by Lt Col (Ret'd) Tug Lawson , with the express aim of proving to the Army Cadet Force Association Sports Board that Tug Of War was a sport ideally suited to the ethos of cadet service, team work, discipline and commitment. The first skills the initial five cadet volunteers learnt were how to erect a training gantr

y using a cypress tree growing by the entrance to County Headquartersa nd how to mix concrete for a suitable weight. Both are still in use today
The First success came at the 1995 Nationals when the tream won the the 530 kilos Junior weight. More successes followed at the National Championships between 1996-1998 inclusive. Back on the winning trail again in 2001 and 2003 and for good measure winning both weights (480 & 560) at the National Indoor Championships back in 1996. After long and intensive lobbying TOW was formally introduced into the ACFA calendar in 2003 with recognition and approval to hold an annual ACFA Inter Region Tug of War Competition for both girls and boys. We have competed in all but two of the annual GENSB competitions which started when Germany hosted the inaugural Championships in 1998, but have so far failed to reach the knock-out stage of the competition, a feat high on our agenda.

Wishing our cadets, adult volunteers, supporters, friends and their families a very Merry Christmas, may all your wishes come true

01/12/2019

All,

As some of you may remember from last year, LNR has started a new tradition of donating to good causes over the festive season. This year, in conjunction with Northampton Hospital, we have chosen to concentrate on the elderly who often have no gifts or visitors.

If you would like to help this fantastic cause, please bring or send a gift on your next parade night.

Gifts cannot be wrapped, but you could put things together with a ribbon. For example, a few puzzle books wrapped with a pen and a nice Christmas message.

Gift ideas: Smellies (both male & female), puzzle books, mindfulness colouring & pens/pencils, cards, nice biscuits or chocolates, bed socks, slipper socks, hankies, lip salves, small puzzles, small easy to do crafting set, Combs, brushes, etc. etc Even a small xmas decoration I am sure would be appreciated.

Cadets could also write a card with a nice message that can be given out by the hospital, as it is likely a number of patients will not get any cards. I am sure a heartfelt message from one of our cadets would give someone great pleasure.
