This month’s theme is:
✨ Visible–Invisible and Voiced–Unvoiced Identities

In this reflective session, we’ll explore Burnham’s (2012) matrix of visible/invisible and voiced/unvoiced identities.

Together, we’ll create space for conversation and personal reflection around the different parts of our identities, considering which may be more visible or hidden, which are given voice, and which may feel less spoken about within different contexts.

The Multicultural Reflective Space offers an opportunity for aspiring psychologists to come together, reflect and have thoughtful conversations around culture, identity and difference.

Hear from one of our previous mentors about their experience of taking part in the BPS Pre-Qualification Group Mentoring Scheme and the value of supporting someone on their journey towards clinical psychology training.

đź“Ł We need more mentors!

We’ve had a fantastic level of interest from aspiring psychologists wanting to take part in the scheme, and we now need more mentors to enable us to re-open applications for mentees.

We know it can be easy to wonder whether you have enough experience or whether you’d make a good mentor. But your experiences of navigating the profession, applying for training, completing the DClinPsy or working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist can offer valuable support and reassurance to someone earlier in their journey.

đź’ś Please consider using your experience to help others.

Mentoring doesn’t mean having all the answers. Sometimes, having someone who understands the process, can share what they’ve learned and can provide a supportive space to reflect can make a real difference.

If you’re eligible, we’d love you to consider becoming a mentor and helping us support more aspiring psychologists through the BPS Pre-Qualification Group Mentoring Scheme.

📢 A call to action for the DClinPsy application and interview process

The British Psychological Society’s Division of Clinical Psychology Pre-Qualification Group presents a call to action for the DClinPsy application and interview process, drawing on insights from applicants, trainees, and qualified clinical psychologists.

The article explores the emotional, practical and financial demands of applying for clinical psychology training, alongside the barriers and inequalities that can shape applicants’ experiences. It also highlights positive steps already being taken by course centres to address some of these challenges, while bringing together reflections on what more could be done to make the application and interview process more accessible, equitable and supportive.

For aspiring clinical psychologists, trainees, qualified clinical psychologists and those involved in DClinPsy selection, this is an important conversation about how we can continue to improve the experience of those navigating the path into clinical psychology training.

🔉We’re excited to announce that our latest edition of the alternative handbook will be launching in late September/early October 2026!

This year we continued to get record numbers, with 1,411 trainees completing the survey. A huge thank you to all the trainees who shared their experiences, and the course centres who circulated the survey link - we couldn’t do it without you all!

The Alternative Handbook is a great free resource for current DClinPsy applicants, as well as anyone considering a future career in clinical psychology. It offers valuable insight into life on clinical training and sits alongside open days and course websites as another useful way to learn more about training.

The PQG Multicultural Reflective Space is a monthly space for pre-qualified and aspiring psychologists to come together, connect and reflect on how culture, language and multiple identities shape our experiences within psychology and clinical practice.

Each month, we explore a different theme, creating space to hear different perspectives, share experiences and reflect together.

🗣️ September Theme: Code Switching

How might shifting between different accents, dialects and languages show up in clinical practice – and how does this connect with culture and identity?

This month, Ananya Mosur Sridhar, first-year international Trainee Clinical Psychologist at UCL, will lead a discussion exploring code switching through the Social Graces framework, grounded in personal experience and shared reflection.
