THE sister of a woman who died months after being beaten and r***d has described her as “loving and caring”, and someone who “wouldn’t hurt a fly”.

Her attacker, Ryan Ashman, 32, had only been released from prison months earlier for repeatedly ra**ng a teenage girl he dragged off the streets.

A judge said his five-year sentence for those offences seemed “lenient”.

Ashman’s latest victim, who was homeless and had a long-term drug problem, sought shelter at his west Hull flat on February 15.

She previously lived with him, but moved out on February 5 after police warned her to look into his background, and she discovered he was a ra**st.

Ashman gave her a Valentine’s card, which she “took no real notice of”, and then chatted to her before ra**ng her.

Sentencing Ashman at Hull Crown Court, Judge Mark Bury told him: “I’m quite satisfied she told you to stop. You became angry.”

Ashman punched the woman three times in the face, fracturing her cheekbone, and also tore her clothes.

Ashman, of Walliker Street, claimed they had consensual s*x, but was convicted by a jury last week of r**e, false imprisonment and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Six members of that jury attended his sentencing hearing yesterday.

His victim’s death was recorded as “unexplained” after she died in April.

But her sister said the ordeal “changed her” and caused her to start drinking heavily.

In a victim statement, she described her as “the most loving and caring of us all”, someone who was “bubbly and wouldn’t hurt a fly”.

“She told me she had started drinking to block out what had happened.

“She said she just couldn’t believe what had happened.

“Her life on drugs and on the streets had been difficult, but she had never been like this before. It had changed her.

“It had shattered her and upset her deeply.”

The judge told Ashman: “It would be wrong for me to speculate about the cause of her death, but her last few weeks and months had been blighted by what you did.”

On February 8, Ashman was arrested when he was found in possession of a knife after he became aggressive with a member of the public, who sought sanctuary in The Punch pub in Hull city centre.

Judge Bury said the circumstances of the offences, his history, and a probation service report, “make it quite plain to me that you are a dangerous offender, that is to say a person who is likely to cause serious harm to the public, in your case, s*xual harm, by the commission of further, specified s*xual offences”.

Ashman was handed a 14-year extended sentence.

He must serve at least two-thirds of the ten-year custodial element of the sentence before he can apply for release on licence.

He would only be released at that stage if the Parole Board is satisfied he is no longer dangerous.

February 2011

Jailed: Ryan Ashman was jailed for five years after a jury took an hour to convict him of r**e and false imprisonment.

A RA**ST dragged a teenage girl off the street, locked her in his flat and subject her to repeated s*x attacks.

Ryan Ashman, 26, grabbed the 16-year-old girl as she walked home from a doctor’s appointment.

He locked her in his flat before ra**ng her five times. She only managed to escape once he had fallen asleep and she ran to a dog walker for help.

The honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding Judge Michael Mettyear jailed him for five years after a jury took just an hour to convict him of five r**es and false imprisonment.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told Hull Crown Court her attacker, who smelled of “vodka and sweat” and had lightening tattoos on both arms, attacked her as she walked along Tennyson Avenue in Bridlington.

She said: “He grabbed me from behind, put his hand over my mouth and dragged me through the door.

“I went to the window and screamed for help at the top of my voice but he pulled me away and threw me down by my hair.

“I sat in the corner scrunched up, crying. He put his hand over my mouth and said ‘don’t say any more or I will really hurt you’.

“I just laid there frozen. He had a knife shoved down the side of his settee.

“He fell asleep and I took the chance to take the keys and get out. I just ran.”

Ashman, of Tennyson Avenue, claimed his victim had consented to s*x.

Ashman, who has a previous conviction for indecently assaulting a three-year-old boy, has been ordered to sign the S*x Offenders Register for life.

Detective Constable Dean Smith said: “I would like to praise the courage of the victim in coming forward which has led to the imprisonment of this man.

“Officers worked hard to bring this man to justice and I hope that now the victim can move on with her life.”

Elwyn Taylor

aged 64
of Skipton Road,
Harrogate

denied six charges of indecent assault, two of indecency with a child and three of s*xual assault and was convicted by a jury in February.

He was jailed for 21 and a half years plus a two-year extension to his parole and, the court heard, will not be released until he has served at least two-thirds of his sentence.

He will be on the s*x offenders’ register for life and was made subject to a s*xual harm prevention order curbing his behaviour and to a restraining order banning him from any contact with the victims, now adults, both for 15 years. He was also barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.

His barrister Susannah Proctor said he had no other s*xual convictions and had not offended since the abuse. His wife would suffer because of his imprisonment because he had been her carer.

COURT: Rotherham man jailed for non-recent child s*xual offences after victim's brave testimony

A brave victim who disclosed non-recent s*xual offences to the police has seen his abuser jailed following an investigation into his offending.

An investigation into Rotherham man Ryan Walker began in 2021 when his victim came forward to report s*xual offences he had committed against him in the 2000s and 2010s.

Walker, 36, of Wellcliffe Close, pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting a boy under 13 by touching and was found guilty of two counts of ra**ng a boy under 13 following a trial.

Walker was also found not guilty of two counts of ra**ng a boy under the age of 13.

He was sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison at Sheffield Crown Court last Thursday (19 February), with Walker also made subject to a s*xual harm prevention order and a restraining order against the victim.

Detective Constable Christian Dixon, who was the officer in charge of this case, praised the victim's courage in reporting the crimes to police.

He said: "From speaking to the victim in this case, I know that the s*xual abuse he was subject to had a devastating effect on his mental health.

"I hope that this sentencing gives him some sort of closure after what must have been a harrowing and traumatic ordeal.

"Without his brave testimony, Walker would not have faced any kind of justice and I want to commend him for coming forward and reporting what happened to police.

"These offences were non-recent and I hope this case shows that no matter how long ago the offending happened, we are always ready to listen and to secure justice on your behalf."

Horrific - Stefan Marin Beat his girlfriend so brutally her unborn baby died!!

'Cowardly' Stefan Marin was convicted of a number of offences including child destruction following the 'deeply disturbing' assault

The "utterly inhumane" and "deeply disturbing" violence shown towards a vulnerable young girl led her to tragically lose her unborn child. Stefan Marin "punched, kicked, strangled and scalded" the victim, "targeting her stomach despite her desperate attempts to protect her unborn child".

Marin, 19, of New George Street, Hull, was convicted unanimously by a jury of child destruction, grievous bodily harm with intent, non-fatal strangulation, false imprisonment, and perverting the course of justice following a nine-day trial. Hull Crown Court heard how he attacked the girl over a four-hour period on March 13 this year. Then, despite initially refusing to let her leave, Marin made the 17-year-old girl get dressed in clean clothes before forcing her to get out of the flat where the assault took place, knowing her family would soon become concerned that she had not returned home or made contact
