🗒️Case Study🗒️
One of our clients arrived in the UK as a young man on a visitor visa and later claimed asylum. With no money and uncertain about his future, he was living with friends when he met four men from his home country at a bus stop. After explaining his situation, he accepted their offer of work and accommodation, but was instead subjected to two years of forced labour in a takeaway. He escaped during a kitchen fire when emergency services attended, after which the police referred him into the NRM, and he was later supported by Palm Cove Society.
Throughout his recovery journey with Palm Cove, he was supported to access GP care and counselling to help manage his PTSD, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts, while receiving regular check ins from our protect and care staff. He chose to engage in ESOL classes and took part in volunteering opportunities to rebuild his confidence and grow community connections. He was supported with housing applications and later moved in with his partner after they married. After relocating to live with his wife, he was referred to our Outreach services. This client is now thriving and on a new chapter in his life. This is yet another example of resilience and hope that shows how, with the right support, victims can overcome trauma and rebuild their futures.
