No mother should give birth in handcuffs. 💔
An article from a previous edition of Birmingham Live highlights the risks pregnant women in prison face.
Among these risks, rather alarmingly, expectant mothers are seven times more likely to suffer a still birth than women not in prison.
The stories detailed in this article show a shocking lack of care for pregnant women in prison.
All pregnancies deserve safety. All mothers deserve respect. All babies deserve a chance.
With funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, through Life’s PPS Programme, we are able to reach some of the most vulnerable women in our society, offering them support and a way forward in extremely difficult circumstances
The Pregnancy & Parenting Support (PPS) Programme - is for women in the justice system who are:
✅Pregnant
✅Grieving a pregnancy loss
✅Parenting babies or young children
✅separated from their child under 5 years old
Our PPS Programme offers:
💬Counselling & skilled listening for women to talk about their pregnancy or their loss
🧠Support to process loss or trauma.
🤰Pregnancy Support to help women navigate their pregnancy and beyond.
🍼Parenting & life skills support helping mothers gain crucial life skills and access mum and baby supplies.
🏠Assistance from trained workers to access housing support.
🚶A path to long-term independence with support to develop education and skills to increase employability.
