Talk on Bumblebees in a week's time- Tuesday 13th October at 18:00 in the Millennium Memorial Hall, Clifton St, Laugharne. Kevin Henry's talk will include the bumblebee lifecycle, their importance as pollinators, why they are struggling and how people can help them.

It seems 15 overflows in the Taf catchment are "Under investigation". . I have asked Dwr Cymru Welsh Water for further information on what is happening.

Storm Overflow Watch: Towy & Cothi catchment – September 2026 round-up.

We started daily tracking of Dŵr Cymru's 73 monitored storm overflow sites across the Towy/Tywi and Afon Cothi catchment on 21 September, so this first round-up covers the back ten days of the month rather than the full 30.

28 of the 73 sites recorded at least one discharge between 21 and 30 September; the remaining 45 stayed quiet throughout.
A significant wet-weather event hit the catchment hard overnight on 29–30 September, with around 31 of the 73 sites discharging simultaneously at the peak — by far the biggest single episode we've logged so far, and it drove most of the month's activity: Brechfa Overflow (8h), Salem WwTW (7h), Ffairfach WwTW (6.25h), Meadow's Road (4.25h) and Cwrt Henri WwTW (3.25h) among the larger results.
Two sites stand out for sheer duration. Crosshands WwTW discharged continuously for around 3.5 days in late September (into 22 September) before a second, separate event began on 30 September and was still running as we checked. Cwmgwili WwTW was in continuous or near-continuous discharge on every single day from 21 through 28 September, before a fresh event started again on the 30th — also still ongoing as of our last check.
Llanfynydd WwTW and Llanedi WwTW were the most frequently active sites, each logging several short events (a few minutes apiece) across the ten days.
Carmel WwTW had one notable longer event running right across the night of 30 September into 1 October (25.5 hours).

Storm Overflow Watch: River Taf catchment and Estuary – September 2026 round-up.

Laugharne Citizen Science has been tracking Dŵr Cymru's 21 monitored storm overflow sites across the Taf Estuary / Carmarthenshire–Pembrokeshire catchment every day this month. Here's what the publicly available discharge data showed for 1–30 September:

13 of the 21 sites recorded at least one discharge during September. The other 8 — Wogan Street, Llangynog, Llanddowror Village, Llanboidy, Tavernspite, Hermon, Glogue and Trelech — stayed quiet all month.
Across the month there were 61 recorded discharge events, totalling roughly 69 hours of overflow time.
Two wet-weather spells drove most of the activity: a single very wet day on 13 September, and a longer spell of heavy rain that began overnight on 29–30 September and was still clearing through the 30th.
Busiest sites by total hours: St Clears Storm Overflow (~27h), Bancyfelin WwTW (~10.5h) and Llanfyrnach WwTW (~8.5h) — all tied to those two wet-weather episodes.
Laugharne WwTW logged the most individual events (24), but these were almost all very short, around 1–2 minutes each. We've raised this pattern with Dŵr Cymru, who confirm their storm tank hasn't reached capacity since mid-September and believe most of these brief readings are false spikes from the monitoring equipment rather than genuine discharges. They're investigating and expect to correct their records once validated.
