Thanks to the incredible support from our community, this will be the first time in 20 years that Langley Park has a banner at the Gala. A huge moment for our village and something we can all be proud of.

Now we need volunteers to march it through Durham!

A big thank you to everyone who came to our AGM and coffee morning on Saturday. We elected the group’s officers, shared an update on the banner (now very close to completion), and it was great to see the full design for the first time.

We also had a brilliant display of mining artefacts, toys and games from Beamish, alongside old photos from the village.

The banner will make its debut at this year’s Durham Miners’ Gala on 11 July. If you couldn’t make it but would like to carry the banner, please get in touch

We first visited Langley Park Primary School in March last year to gather ideas and inspiration from the pupils as we began designing the side reflecting the modern village of Langley Park on the Miners’ Banner.

Today, we returned with the design created by Emma from Durham Bannermakers. The children were very excited to see the final result and were delighted to hear that they will all receive a badge featuring the design.

Head Teacher Mr Mordue showed great interest in the process, and all staff and Governors were also presented with a badge.

Please come along to the Langley Park Miners’ Institute at 10am on the 18th of April to find out more about the new banner and this year’s gala.

There will be a Langley Park Miners’ Banner Group AGM and Coffee Morning on Saturday 18 April 2026 at 10am at the Miners’ Institute.

At the AGM we will elect the group’s officers and provide an update on our activities and the progress of the new banner, which is now close to completion and set to debut at this year’s Miners’ Gala. You’ll also be able to see the full banner design, hear about plans for the Gala, and sign up to walk behind the banner.

There’ll be a coffee morning alongside the meeting, so please come along for a chat and to support the group. This is also a chance to bring along any photos you may have of the mining community to share and discuss.

If you can’t make it but would like to walk with the banner at the Gala, please drop us a message to let us know.

Yesterday was the final day of our photography exhibition, Mining Memories - Remembering the roots Langley Park. Sinead Livingston, founder and choir leader of The Singergy Collective, which includes the Langley Larks, dropped in and gave us a wonderful surprise by singing Farewell Johnny Miner. Sinead's beautiful rendition of Ed Pickford's song brought us to tears! Thank you Sinead!
