Thank you so much to all involved in last weekend's The Taps 30 bike ride in Lytham for the wonderful continued support with the event! 🙌

Over 100 cyclists saddled up for the town's 28th annual Taps bike ride, waved off by The Taps pub landlord Steve Norris. Over the years, this fantastic event has raised over £77,000 for us, plus more for a number of other good causes 🤗

Ride organiser Danny Kirkman, proprietor of Ansdell hair salon Salvation Hairdressing, who also rode on Sunday, said: “Our entry was up this year on last despite a terrible weather forecast.

“The bad weather didn’t really materialise but we are very grateful to everyone who took part and supported the event for not being put off!”

Danny added: “We are also very grateful to all our many event sponsors. We had some terrific individual performances this year, which we are predicting is going to be a good year for our three charities. We hope to announce the total raised by this year’s Taps bike ride very soon.”

Among the most outstanding performances were those of 81-year-old John Smith, who completed the 30 mile course and at the other end of the age scale, rides by seven-year-old Maxi Moran and nine-year-old Rohan Jackson, who both finished the 15 mile course with their respective dads. Maxi raised an amazing £2,188 for us after his dad Dan set up an online fundraising page! ❤

Thank you so much to everyone involved in organising this fantastic ride, to all who took part, and to all who helped raise additional funds through sponsorship for their part in the challenge for us and the ride's other charities - we hugely appreciate your support! 👏🥰

Thanks so much to our lovely Dallam supporters group for the wonderful continued support! The team will once again be setting up shop with their tasty homemade treats at Storth Village Hall for the duration of the annual Silverdale and Arnside Arts Festival on the 27th and 28th June, to raise funds for us 🤗

While upstairs will be displaying work by a number of local artists, downstairs will host a pop-up café both days from 10 am to 3:30 pm run entirely by the volunteers.

🥧🍰🍪☕️ Among the group are various renowned WI bakers and home cooks, famed for their scones, cakes and home-made pies and pasties! These, along with hot and cold breakfast buns, soup and other delicious snacks, will be sold to raise funds for us.

Alison Charlesworth, group member and retired headmistress of Storth Village School, said: “Our last café was in 2023 as the hall hasn’t been used as an arts festival venue since then. We have been working to get as many of our ingredients as possible donated.

“This enables us to maximise the profits on everything that we sell. We are all volunteers and all our profits will be donated to Rosemere Cancer Foundation to help the charity fund projects to benefit cancer patients from across South Cumbria and Lancashire.”

Thanks so much to all of you for the continued support - and if any of our fab followers are in the area, feel free to drop in for a brew and a bite to eat! 🥰

Thank you so much to Sarah Schofield, of Charnock Richard, who has raised an amazing total of £5,588 for us with support from her employer Leyland Trucks and their charitable arm Leyland Trucks Helping Hand 🙌❤

Sarah chose to fundraise in thanks for treatment her husband Michael is receiving at the Rosemere Cancer Centre here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Michael was diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer last year. Since then, Sarah’s departmental colleagues have organised a bake sale, which raised £535.25, and Sarah took part in our annual Walk in the Dark from Chorley Hospital to Royal Preston Hospital back in April.

Her fantastic total was made up of donations to her online donation page for her part in the walk by friends, family, and a generous contribution by Leyland Trucks, along with the bake sale funds 🤗

Sarah said: “Thank you to everyone who has supported me in my fundraising for Rosemere Cancer Foundation. My work colleagues have been especially generous.”

Thanks so much for your support, Sarah - the funds will help to make such a difference for local cancer patients cared for here at the regional cancer centre, and across Lancashire and the South Lakes! 🙏

Thanks to our kind charity supporters, we've recently been able to buy two specialist recliner chairs for our Ribblesdale Ward, the 24-bed oncology in-patient ward here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust 🤗

The chairs, which both have specialist inbuilt enhanced support, pressure relief and adjustability, cost £7,847 of our charitable funds.

They were were requested by clinical lead occupational therapist Joanne Kennedy, who explained: “Up until the arrival of the new chairs, Ribblesdale Ward had just the one extremely well used recliner for all its patients.

“However, as many as four, five or more patients could require specialist supportive seating at any one time, which made sharing the one recliner a real challenge.”

Joanne added: “Having the opportunity to sit out of bed safely and comfortably is not only clinically beneficial but deeply important for maintaining dignity, independence and quality of life.”

We are delighted to have been able to buy these chairs for the ward - we know they will make a huge difference for staff in terms of the care they are able to provide, and to patients in terms of comfort, recovery and quality of life. Thanks so much to our generous fundraisers, donors, and volunteers who made this purchase possible! ❤🙏

We'd like to give a huge thank you to Peter Ward, who took on the challenge of walking from the regional cancer centre here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to his hometown of Clitheroe - and succeeded in raising a fantastic £3,267.09 for us! ❤

He decided to fundraise for us in thanks for treatment he received last year, following a shock diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Peter (65) explained: “I’m football mad and after retiring, I began playing walking football two or three times a week. After a game, we have a cup of tea in the sports pavilion and one day, some of the lads were chatting about PSA testing.

“I admitted I had no idea what they were talking about but they explained it was to do with testing for prostate cancer. I had my annual ‘Well Man’ MOT a couple of weeks later and so I asked the nurse if I could have a PSA blood test, which she did for me. That was on the Monday morning. Tuesday morning, I had a call from the health centre asking me to come in.”

At the health centre, Peter was told that his PSA level was abnormally high and he was referred for further tests under the suspected cancer two week wait rule. Peter explained: “A normal PSA level for a man of my age is up to 4.7 ng/mL. Mine was 93.7 ng/mL but I had no symptoms whatsoever. People have since asked me how many times I was up in the night to go to the toilet but I wasn’t!

“Thankfully, after various scans, the consultant told me that my prostate cancer was just confined to the prostate itself so hadn’t spread. My prognosis was therefore good. My treatment started with hormonal injections after which I had to go to Rosemere Cancer Centre for 20 sessions of radiotherapy.”

Peter continued: “Before I began my radiotherapy, I received an invitation to attend an open morning at the centre, which was great as it took away a lot of the fear. The open mornings are funded by Rosemere Cancer Foundation. Having gone to the open morning, I knew when I went back for treatment that I was going to somewhere with a friendly, calm, warm and welcoming atmosphere – not the scary place you imagine it to be.

“I decided I wanted to give back by walking 20 miles from the centre to Clitheroe to help fund future open mornings. My plan was to do the walk solo but then my son Jospeh said he wanted to walk with me, my daughter Kate said the same and in the end, 17 family members accompanied me on what was one of the most emotional days of my life.”

Peter, who following treatment has received the all clear, added: “We walked past BAE Systems in Samlesbury. We all had special walk t-shirts on and a collection bucket for donations from passers-by. My wife Maxine was our back-up driver. My sister arranged lunch for us all at Osbaldeston Church before we continued along the A59 into Whalley. From there, my eight-year-old grandson Ruben walked with us to the finish at the School Rooms in Clitheroe. I can’t thank people enough for all their support.

“We have a walking football team WhatsApp group and after posting about my diagnosis, I know of at least four more players who have had PSA testing, two of which have had to have treatment. My message to all men of a certain age is to get checked.”

🥰 What an amazing achievement - well done to all involved in raising this incredible total, and thank you for spreading the word about the importance of the Well Man and PSA tests too 🙏
