// Lamlash Community Hub - Press Release 17 Feb 2025

Lamlash Community Hub were disappointed to learn that we were unsuccessful in our bid to secure Lamlash Church and Halls from the Church of Scotland with the purpose creating a vibrant community hub for the Island.

Discussions which led to the setting up of Lamlash Community Hub as a limited company and registered charity began in August 2023, and the team of volunteers have worked hard to both raise significant funds and facilitate an attractive development plan for the site with the help of our architects Simpson & Brown of Edinburgh. Plans were in place to create valuable community space for local voluntary and charitable organisations, local businesses, and islanders alike, and supported by the generous offer of purchase funding from the Scottish Land Fund.

We remain deeply grateful to everyone in the community who contributed funds, support, and enthusiasm for this project. The level of backing we received demonstrated how much this site means to the people of Lamlash and beyond.

While this outcome is not what we had hoped for, we recognise that strong feelings remain within the community. We will take time to reflect on the next steps and remain open to exploring any avenues that may arise to ensure that these historic buildings continue to serve the islanders’ needs.

// Lamlash Community Hub secure £121,500 from the Scottish Land Fund towards the purchase of Lamlash Parish Church and Halls!

Lamlash Community Hub have been successful in securing a grant of £121,500 from the Scottish Land Fund to help them move forward to acquire Lamlash (Kilbride) Parish Church and Hall on behalf of the Arran community. This comes after being successful in an earlier grant of £12,800 from the same Fund to carry out a feasibility study for the project, led by architects Simpson & Brown.

This latest grant includes an extra award of £15,000 to contract a development worker for the project to help take the project to the next stage. The property is expected to be on the market soon and the group are hopeful that they can secure the buildings.

Dr Lilias Nicholls, chair of the trustees for Lamlash Community Hub says, ‘we are so pleased to have been successful in this landmark bid which provides 95% of the cost of buying the buildings based on the evaluation. We have worked hard during this last year to take this project forward, and our dream to secure these buildings to create a community hub for the whole of the island is now within reach if our offer is accepted by the Church of Scotland.’

Work to secure extra funds towards the purchase price and renovation work are continuing, including an upcoming Christmas Carol Sing-along in Lamlash Church Hall on Saturday 21st December at 7pm.

This is so key to us as we continue to develop the concept to create a vibrant and attractive space at the centre of our community. Watch this space for developments!

Our little team of island people want this project to be for the whole island, as well as the people and businesses of Lamlash. Thanks for your support so far.
