Please note that this is not a therapeutic support service. It would also be a conflict of interest for us to support anyone who has been violent or coercive.

Othering is the process of labelling people as “different” or “not belonging,” creating social divisions that can lead to exclusion and discrimination. It doesn’t just reflect difference — it actively shapes who is included or pushed aside.

It can happen in everyday life, institutions, and culture, and can contribute to inequality and dehumanisation of minority groups.

Challenging it means choosing empathy, inclusion, and fairness for all. 🌍

The World Cup is a time when people come together to watch the game and celebrate.

But not everyone experiences football in the same way. Whether you're watching the game in a pub, a bar, or at home, everyone should be able to enjoy the game safely and comfortably. Comments, jokes or “banter” can cross a line and affect whether people feel safe, welcome and respected.

Join White Ribbon UK for a free practical webinar, Watching the Game, Playing Your Part, exploring everyday situations and simple ways to speak up safely, support others and help everyone enjoy the game, wherever you're watching.

💜 It Does Happen Here 💜
Orkney is often seen as a safe, idyllic place to live — but sexual violence can and does happen here.

In the past year, we have supported 111 individuals, including 86 survivors of sexual violence.

These numbers matter. They remind us why awareness, support, and prevention are so important in every community.

You are not alone.

Do you think you have been a victim of crime, but haven't reported it yet? Victim Support Scotland can help you take that next step, if you wish to do so.

We can help explore your options and answer questions about the process of reporting a crime. It can be an intimidating process, and nobody should have to go through it alone. Equally, we will never pressure you to report a crime if you don't want to.

Get in touch to request support through our helpline, webchat service, or fill out a form.
