Kirk Michael Badminton Club

Kirk Michael Badminton Club Kirk Michael Badminton Club - Club nights are Tursdays. We compete in Mixed League 4, Open League 7 and Ladies League 5.

03/03/2026

Result!
Michael Mixed A 11-8 Northern Mixed A.

Win over league rivals keeps us in the hunt, trailing Northern by five and level on points with Celts who have Northern left to play which may become a winner takes all match.

Three horse race down the the final games.

With Michael playing first, it will give both Celts and Northern a target for their final match. Fingers crossed for a positive final result and a stalemate on their end.

POTM: Carolyn Brown
POTM: Chris Gregory

03/02/2026

RESULT: Michael Ladies A 252 – 95 Northern B

Another ruthless display from our ladies this evening putting the league on notice that it’s now Michael’s title to lose making it six wins in six games.

Thank you to the club players for being patient and understanding after a run of two-three weeks of home fixtures taking priority over club night. Back to normal next week.

• Michael Ladies A POTM: Carolyn Brown
• Northern B POTM: Elly King

RESULTS!

26/01/2026
Michael Men’s A 224 – 222 Selbourne C

Michael Men’s A are becoming masters of the fine margins. With game week one ending in a perfect score draw and game week two decided by just a single point, it felt only right for the team to improve ever so slightly again this week and take the win by two points.

Three games played, one draw, two wins, and a points difference of +3 – incredible stuff.

We’re extremely proud of our juniors this season, who continue to improve week on week against experienced men’s league players.

- Michael Men’s A POTM: Leon Murphy
- Selbourne C POTM: Kieran Goldsmith

27/01/2026
Michael Ladies A 249 – 189 Northern A

Going into this fixture, both teams were unbeaten after three games and separated at the top of the league only by points difference.

Michael Ladies A produced a dominant display to hand Northern Ladies their first loss of the season.

Northern look to be stern competition for both our Ladies and Mixed teams this season, with Northern Mixed getting first blood back in December with a 10–8 win.

Northern currently look favourites for the Mixed league, but we’re hopeful of spoiling the party in the Ladies league.

- Michael Ladies A POTM: Leanne Brew
- Northern A POTM: Lynne Hardinge

Michael Ladies A 252 – 128 Selborne Ladies C

Michael ladies continue their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable win at home to Selborn C.

This sets up a top of the table clash with fellow unbeaten Northern ladies A 06/01/2026 – One to watch for sure!

- Michael Ladies A POTM: Carolyn Brown
- Selborne Ladies C POTM: Gail Babatunde

02/12/2025
Northern Mixed A 10 – 8 Michael Mixed A

It’s shaping up to be a season-long battle with Northern in both the mixed and ladies leagues.

Our noisy neighbours struck first, delivering our mixed team’s only defeat of the season.
With both clubs fielding some reserves, the depth and quality in each squad is evident, despite having smaller squads than many other teams on the island.

The result leaves the league finely balanced, with Northern now four points clear of Michael. A strong performance from Celts away at Rushen later this month could turn this into a genuine three-horse battle going into the new year.

Players of the Match
- Michael Mixed A POTM (voted by Northern): Leanne Brew.
- Northern Mixed A POTM (voted by Michael): Chris Gregory.

18/11/2025

RESULT:
Michael Open A 220-220 Northern Open B

Just when we thought our last men’s result was on the wire, last nights fixture followed suit!

Our open league campaign continued positively with a very rare score draw.

We’re incredibly happy with how our open team has performed so far this season with three juniors and one senior being fielded in every fixture so far, providing valuable competitive experience.

Michael POTM tonight was Jamie Everitt.
Northern POTM tonight was George Li.

There will be no club night tonight as our ladies team look to continue their storming start to the season with a home fixture to Selbourne C. Good luck ladies!

RESULT:
Michael Mixed A 12 – 5 Rushen Mixed B

The second men’s opening match was the closest of the night and could easily have gone either way. Juniors Charlie Kneale and Kylan Murphy pushed an experienced Rushen pairing hard, narrowly losing the first game 22–24. That narrow defeat gave Rushen the momentum to take the second 14–21.

The second ladies’ match was far more straightforward, with Jo Moore returning to the side alongside Lorna Kennaugh to claim a confident 21–12, 21–10 victory.

We’ve seen significant improvement from our players competing across the open, ladies’ and mixed leagues this season, highlighting the importance of regular competitive badminton.

The first men’s match was the only one to go to three. Jamie Everitt and Ryan Brew were slow to settle, losing the first 18–21, but found their rhythm midway through the second and battled back to take the next two 21–15, 21–15.

In the first ladies’ match, Carolyn Brown and Leanne Brew continued their perfect record, easing to 21–11, 21–8.

At the tea-and-biscuit break, Michael led 6–3.

In the fourth mixed, Lorna Kennaugh and Kylan Murphy, who have both benefitted from playing open and ladies’ league are still finding their feet in mixed. They worked hard but were beaten 10–21, 16–21 by a strong Rushen pair.

The third mixed saw Jo Moore and Charlie Kneale look like a long-established partnership, taking both games comfortably 21–11, 21–13.

The second mixed pairing of Carolyn Brown and Jamie Everitt started slowly but fought back to win the opening game before carrying their momentum into the second, rounding out a 21–18, 21–10 win.

In the final match of the night, first mixed pairing Leanne Brew and Ryan Brew, fuelled by their positive mental attitudes, dispatched their opponents 21–13, 21–7 to close out the fixture.

A big thank-you to Rushen for travelling to Kirk Michael after some of the worst weather in recent weeks, at least this fixture is out of the way before winter. Rarely do we say we didn’t need the heating on!

Players of the Match
- Michael Mixed A POTM (voted by Rushen): Charlie Kneale continuing his excellent form this season.
- Rushen Mixed B POTM (voted by Michael): Tim Woakes impressive at 2nd men’s and 4th mixed, unbeaten on the night.

27/10/2025

RESULT:
Selbourne Open C 208-209 Michael Open A

One point in it!

The age old saying of “every point counts” never rang more true as Michael managed to pull off a dramatic comeback and take the win by the smallest of margins.

Charlie Kneale and Ryan Brew undeterred by a 26 point deficit going into the final games managed to claw back 27 points to swing it back into Michaels favour.

Michael POTM tonight was Davin Tasker.

Selbourne POTM tonight was badminton legend Ray McMullen.

Ray was the saviour of the fixture, stepping in last minute for a no show ensuring the fixture would be played without any games forfeit. Thank you Ray.

23/10/2025

RESULT:
Tynwald Celts Mixed B 8-10 Michael Mixed A

A positive start to life in Mixed League Four, with Michael Mixed A edging out a solid Tynwald Celts team on our first away day of the season.

Debutant Marie Gregory was given her first taste of competitive badminton, even getting the chance to play alongside her son Davin in mixed doubles.

Charlie Kneale was voted Michael’s Player of the Match, following a successful offseason where he won the IOM Under-17s Doubles Championship. Charlie is definitely one to watch this season, and this is just the first of many impressive performances, well done Charlie!

Joanne Scambler was nominated by Michael as Celts Player of the Match, winning all her games and playing with a smile throughout.

Our next Mixed League match will be at home against Rushen B.

07/10/2025

Good luck to our ladies who have entered the ladies league after an absence of a few years.
