It's so we're saying a big THANK YOU to every one of our volunteers for the time and dedication they put in to supporting our work with adults with learning disabilities. Featured are just a few of the many people who make up our team, without which we would not be able to suport as many people as we do 💜

If you feel inspired to become a volunteer visit balancesupport.org.uk/volunteering where we have a variety of opportunities for you to get involved in.

🎂 Service-user, SP, said she would like to bake more so we supported her in making that happen.

SP said "I really enjoyed the baking , it was good fun! It was nice to have help and good to get more practice and make things. Next up I want to make a risotto and a beef Bourguignon."

At Balance Support, our work is person-centred, ensuring our clients lead the lives they choose.

🌱🍽️The Stud Community Garden is passionate about every step of the journey our food takes, from growing it, to preparing it, to enjoying it!

The clients grew an abundance of rhubarb this year. Some was prepared and boiled up to make jam and some was blended up to make ice lollies.

🍧Over 15kg of rhubarb was picked and chopped, and made into 24 jars of jam and 60 ice lollies!

Clients L and D commented -
"nice eating and it made me happy" - L
"I like chopping and cooking, tastes delicious" - D

⚽Arsenal super-fan M realised one of his ambitions recently by going to watch them play in the VIP section at the Emirates Stadium. Long-time fan M, accompanied by support worker Ross, was supported in planning and booking the trip, including the taxi to get there. M never misses a game and was additionally excited to meet one of his favourite Arsenal YouTubers whilst at the event.

M said that he had 'a fun time at the match', that he 'enjoyed going with Ross' and that he would 'like to go again'. His favourite part was 'sitting in the nice seats and watching them win'.

Our clients have a range of interests, which our support workers empower them to engage in to the fullest. Support worker, E told us about a recent day trip planned by service user, J.

 🚌

'J and I attended the spring gathering event at on Sunday 19th April. We planned the route there during our support sessions in the prior weeks, using online applications such as Google Maps. We took a train from Surbiton to Weybridge and walked around 20 minutes to the museum.

J has a big passion for buses and all public transport in general. He enjoyed seeing all the classics and modern vehicles. We went on all the available planes in the aircraft display area and had fun doing all the activities in the flight shed/aircraft factory too. We also had a browse at the stalls and J purchased a FirstBus company vest that he’s been after for a while and was very pleased with himself. Overall the day went well and was successful.'

Lots of renewed and new-found knowledge - including how best to bandage an injury! Hopefully we never have to use any of these skills, but thankful to have them in case we do!
