Our Japanese Quince heralding spring next to the tennis courts. Not only beautiful but tolerates poor soil and drought conditions. The fruit is edible, but it is generally too sour and astringent to be eaten raw so best for making into jams, jellies, and preserves.

Japanese quince has some medicinal properties. The fruit and seeds contain compounds that have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects. The plant has also been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat a range of ailments, including coughs, digestive problems, and skin conditions.

POSTPONED due to forecast rain and frozen ground.
This event will now be the following week (which looks warmer and sunnier) Sunday 28th January.

Public Tree Planting Day
We ordered a number of tree saplings from TCV (Park Pack = 10 Common Oak, 10 Silver Birch, 10 Green Beech, 10 Hornbeam, 10 Alder) a few months ago and have now been given the delivery date -hurrah!
We need YOUR help to plant the saplings (each tree will be a tiny “whip” which is basically a small stick with roots!) so are planning a public planting event on Sunday 21st January at 2pm.

Please do let us know you’re coming and invite people you know who like getting muddy!

Remember, “the best time to plant a tree was ten years ago, but the 2nd best time is NOW”!
