Our dear friends,

The time is right for Hull to have its own Trans Pride event. Over the last year we have heard many people saying it would be a great idea, but the only way we can make this work is if we all come together to make it happen.

This event shouldn't be run or owned by any one person or organisation (other than itself), it should be run by the community for the community, to bring all of us together.

This Transgender Day of Remembrance, we're hosting a candlelit vigil in Pearson Park where we will remember the trans and nonbinary people we have lost due to transphobia over the last year. We'll then be moving to Newland Tap for peer support and socialising. Trans people, nonbinary people and allies all welcome.

If you've been the victim of transphobia or are struggling with something to do with your gender identity or transition, come and speak to one of us. Our dedicated peer supporters will be wearing badges, look out for us. Even if we're in the middle of a conversation, we'll make time for you.

Some friends of Phoenix have organised a party for the trans community, the day after Transgender Day of Remembrance, because this year has been harder than most for trans people, and we need a night to let our hair down and relax. DJs, costumes, and a raffle, we're in. See you there!

We want the government to give trans people legal access to single-sex spaces of their acquired gender. We feel that the recent supreme court ruling could undermine trans people's access to single-sex spaces and make them vulnerable.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day. This year's theme is "Changing the Narrative on Su***de". It's important to remember that talking about suicidal thoughts doesn't make a person more likely to contemplate or complete su***de. Here at Phoenix, we encourage people to speak openly about su***de, whether you're worried about someone, or have these thoughts yourself. If you're gender-questioning, trans or nonbinary, or you support someone who is, we're here to support you. Let's change the narrative by making sure nobody feels alone with their thoughts.
