🌿 **Rising in Green: Healing, Growth, and Community** 🌿

Mental health continues to deeply affect many women and girls, particularly from colour backgrounds, who often face additional barriers in accessing culturally appropriate spaces for healing. At Hull Sisters, we recognise that healing is not one-size-fits-all, it happens through connection, creativity, nature, and shared experiences.

Our **Rising in Green** programme is creating exactly that kind of space. It is not only an awareness project but truly a practical innovative steps to involve the most abunderned segments that was struggling to heal themselves in a neutral, women only culturally appropriate space surrounded by well qualified, experienced women of colour to guild them.

What began as an overgrown and neglected area has, through months of care, dedication, and collective effort, been transformed into a clean, thriving allotment. This space is now full of life where women and girls and all children come together to grow fresh vegetables, learn new skills, and reconnect with themselves and each other.

🌱 Participants are learning through weekly workshops by Rewilding Youth,

* How to grow and care for different plants
* why Green Hull is necessary?
* Preparing and nurturing soil beds
* Understanding watering and seasonal needs
* The joy of watching something grow from seed to harvest

But this project is about so much more than gardening.

For many women and girls especially those experiencing depression and anxiety, the simple act of planting, nurturing, and sharing food becomes a powerful part of their healing journey. Socialising, networking, and even giving vegetables to others are meaningful steps toward rebuilding confidence, purpose, and wellbeing.

🌸 Alongside the allotment, we are also transforming our car park areas into green spaces filled with vegetables and flowers and turning every corner into an opportunity for growth and beauty. Interest in the project continues to grow, with more women and girls joining and benefiting every week.

This incredible work would not have been possible without the unwavering support of **Rewilding Youth**. We are truly grateful for their commitment, generosity, and belief in this vision. Their support has helped turn an idea into a living, breathing space of healing.

🌍 The impact of this project has already been recognised, with the project featured in *Friends of the Earth* magazine a testament to the power of community-led environmental change.

We are also excited to be working with **Yorkshire Wildlife**, who will be installing birdhouses in the space. As more birds return to the area, these additions will help protect them during extreme weather, creating a safe and nurturing environment for wildlife alongside our community. We have seen the small birds more often use our allotment and surrounding trees . We noticed the death of few small birds and decided to involve Yorkshire wild life to protect.

📦 Another exciting development is the donation of a container by Rewilding Youth, which we will repurpose to store and organise donated items from the public further strengthening our support for those in need.

This partnership is not short-term but it is a long-term commitment to creating lasting change. Step by step, we are building something truly meaningful that will continue to grow and flourish for years to come.

💚 Rising in Green is not only a space for healing but it is also our contribution to a greener, more sustainable Hull.

Together, we are growing more than vegetables.
We are growing hope, resilience, and community.

We were truly honoured to be invited by BBC Radio Humberside’s *Make a Difference* team and the *Look North* crew to celebrate 5 incredible years of the Make a Difference programme. 🎉

This recognition is a reflection of our hard work, the strength of the women who find hope through us, and the growing demand for our services which continues to highlight just how needed this support is.

It was so inspiring to reconnect with past winners and hear about the powerful impact they are still making in their communities. It was especially wonderful to connect with our valued partner, Rewilding Youth, and celebrate the difference they continue to make. So much passion, resilience, and positive change all in one room😊

We’re also excited to share that you’ll be hearing more about our project very soon, with Carla on her show later this week so stay tuned! 📻

For the past 13 years, Hull Sisters has worked tirelessly to provide vital support to women and children from the most marginalised backgrounds. With extremely limited resources and the generosity of public support from Hull and East Riding, we have been running a food bank, hot lunch services, and distributed essential household items, baby equipment, food, sanitary products, clothing, and much more.

It was wonderful to welcome Amie Watson from Hull Food Partnership to support us with food distribution for women facing poverty in our community. 💚

Together, we were able to help families prepare for Ramadan and Lent, ensuring they had food on their tables without stress or worry during this important time.

We are truly grateful for this support and partnership, which makes a real difference to women and their families when they need it most.

Thank you, Hull Food Partnership, for standing with our community. 🙏

Women in Iran are facing a life-and-death struggle simply to claim their most basic human rights. Their resistance is not a political choice, it is an act of survival. For decades, women’s lives, bodies, voices, and futures have been controlled by religious authorities who impose laws that strip them of freedom, dignity, and autonomy.

In this courageous movement, countless Iranian women have paid the highest price. Many have lost their lives. Many have been imprisoned, silenced, humiliated, and punished for daring to exist freely. Others continue to live under constant fear, yet they refuse to surrender their humanity. Their bravery is a testament to the strength of women who stand up even when the cost is unbearable.

We stand in unwavering solidarity with the women of Iran. Their struggle is our struggle. Their pain is felt far beyond borders, cultures, and languages. We hold hope that this movement built on courage, sacrifice, and resilience will lead to justice, freedom, and the full recognition of Iranian women’s human rights.

No woman, anywhere in the world, should have to fight for her right to live freely, to speak, to choose, or to exist with dignity.

Women’s rights are human rights.

16 Days of activisim- White Ribbon campaign.
We Speak Up, We Stand Together 🕊️

Today, on White Ribbon Day, we stand united with women and girls everywhere who have faced violence, silence, or disbelief.

Too often, when women speak the truth, they’re told they’re “causing drama.”
But speaking up isn’t drama, it’s courage.
It’s refusing to let disrespect be disguised as peace.
It’s choosing honesty over silence.

At Hull Sisters, we see that strength every single day.

“Throw me to the wolves and I will return leading the pack.”
This isn’t just a quote it’s the reality of so many women who rise stronger despite the challenges they face.

But no woman should have to rise alone.

Silence protects abusers.
Your voice protects you and it protects others.
If you stay silent, they win.
When you speak, you break the cycle.

Today, we honour every woman who has survived, spoken up, rebuilt, and reclaimed her life.
And we stand with those still finding their voice. We hear you. We believe you. We walk with you.

Let’s raise our voices, challenge harmful attitudes, and create a world where women and girls are safe, valued, and respected always.

🔸 End violence against women and girls
🔸 Believe survivors
🔸 Break the silence

16 Days of activisim, - we appeal to all men who believe in women s rights to speak up.

For many women of colour, domestic abuse is not always visible. It is often hidden behind cultural expectations, community stigma, and the fear of not being believed. These women face multiple layers of deprivation and additional barriers when trying to access support from language challenges and racism to a lack of culturally informed services that understand their lived experiences.

To break the cycle of abuse, women of colour need more than standard support. They need understanding. They need safety. They need culturally sensitive services that recognise their identities, honour their stories, and provide a space where they can speak without fear or judgment.

Hull Sisters stands firmly in that space.

We offer a safe, women-only environment grounded in respect, cultural awareness, and sisterhood. Here, every woman, regardless of background, language, or circumstance, is heard, believed, and supported. We empower women to speak up, rebuild confidence, and reclaim their lives.

we stand with all women regardless of any backgrounds.

We shine a light on their courage.

We amplify their voices. And we reaffirm our commitment to creating safety, dignity, and justice for every woman.

White Ribbon 2025 – Speak Up, Stand Firm ✨
Violence against women doesn’t begin with bruises — it begins with words, disrespect, and silence. This White Ribbon Day, Hull Sisters stands with every woman reclaiming her voice, her dignity, and her worth.
We call on all men who believe in equality and justice to Speak Up when they witness sexism, name-calling, degrading jokes, or any behaviour that devalues women.
Because silence fuels abuse — and challenging harmful behaviour stops it before it escalates.
At Hull Sisters, we see every day how sexism, discrimination, and cultural norms can silence women, especially women of colour who face multiple layers of harm. But together, we can break the cycle.
💪 Let’s raise our voices.
💪 Let’s challenge disrespect.
💪 Let’s say a firm NO to sexism, violence, and abuse in all its forms.
Together, we speak up. Together, we make change.
