What an interesting meeting we had this evening as we delved into the world of ekphrastic writing (writing that is based upon a work of art) and took our inspiration from some highly unusual postcards 😀
Louise launched us into our free-write with the thought-provoking prompt, "It saved me," and we even had some baked goods to enjoy during our break, made by our very own, gluten-free baker, Lilah 😋
We missed Lynda Harrison very much indeed, but look to next month when she will be giving the tutorial.
A big thanks to all who attended, especially those joining us for the first time.
Keep writing and we'll see you again soon!

Join us for our next meeting on July 29th from 5.30 - 7.30pm at Hull Central Library. We will be trying out some Ekphrastic writing, which is when you take inspiration from a work of art. We really hope you can make it! 😊

We did our best to beat the heat at yesterday's meeting. A big thanks to all that joined us!

Louise talked us through her journey as a published writer, from early days of short story submissions to her search for a literary agent, and now having twelve published books under her belt!
She shared insider hints and tips, and helped us to brainstorm about what to include in our biography statements when making a submission.
We were prompted to write on the theme "This is what stopped me," and there was a metaphor creation exercise that had us contemplating how "loneliness is like a mango" and "laughter is like a gun."

What a lovely way to spend an evening! Last night's meeting was fab with another amazing turnout (eighteen of us in total). We invented new words and discussed reading a text like a writer - being alert to character clues, structure, and what makes for good prose. We were inspired by one of James Robertson's 365 stories, and we shared, discussed, and supported one another, as per usual.

Who's ready to do some writing?
Join us on Wednesday at Hull Central Library for our monthly meeting from 5.30 - 7.30pm.
We will be exploring the topic "Reading as a Writer" with prompts and exercises as always.
We're a friendly bunch, I promise 🥰

We had such a lovely group last night, with a couple of new faces and several coming along for the second time. Prompts and exercises got us scribbling away, and Valerie, Louise, and Lynda gave a joint tutorial that explored the different ways in which writers plot and plan their stories. Are you a plotter or a pantser? Or maybe you fall somewhere in between?

Another fabulously fun meeting tonight as we contemplated the voice of an object and responded to the prompts, "Let's not be quiet..." and "What haunts us..."
