📌NEW CARE VACANCY

Hours and days:
Negotiable, but we have funding from the Local Authority for 8 hours per week term time and 12 hours per week in holidays.

Location
Eastrington

Description of Duties

Carer could be female or male, but must have knowledge of or be prepared to learn about Aspergers and Pathological Demand Avoidance, as well as mental health issues including eating disorders, anxiety and depression. Must be prepared to think outside the box because looking after a young person with PDA requires this skill! Must remain calm at all times no matter what happens and display a quiet tone of voice at all times. Must also be prepared to negotiate and compromise in order that the young person can feel as in control as possible and therefore remain calm.

The young lady you will be looking after is independent in that she manages all personal care and takes medication herself, although may require reminders or prompts. May also require support and understanding whilst drinking and eating and after drinking and eating, due to her eating disorder. You may be required to ensure she consumes a certain amount of supplement drinks and food and to record what she consumes.

Young person requires someone who can recognise when she needs total quiet and time alone to remain calm, and also when she requires someone to join in with her interests and conversations. Person would need to show an interest in the things she likes such as reading fantasy, dance, opera singing, Marvel films, dogs, Star Wars and Harry Potter. Must also have a good sense of humour and laugh at her jokes!

Job role may involve looking after the young person at home (particularly initially) as well as visits to the cinema or the theatre or similar, going for walks or even taking her to school or dance class occasionally. The Job role will involve building a trusting relationship so that the young person feels calm and able to access the outside world.

A DBS certificate will be required and previous experience working with Pathological Demand Avoidance and eating disorders would be preferable, although training can be provided for the right applicant. Having the right attributes for this post is far more important than experience within disabilities or mental health or social care. Anyone who is interested might like to read the information on the PDA society website regarding PDA and helpful strategies, as well as the information on some of the Eating Disorder sites such as Seed. This will give you a good idea of the sorts of difficulties and supports which may be involved, and the types of approach you may need to use to support this person.

Rate of Pay
Rate of pay will be in the region of ÂŁ9.00 to ÂŁ9.50 per hour.

A full driving licence and use of your vehicle for work purposes will be necessary for this position as we live in a village between Howden and Goole.
