Kingsdown SOS

Kingsdown SOS Kingsdown is a village on the English Channel coast of Kent.

Parts of the village are built on or behind the shingle beach that runs north to Deal and beyond, while other parts are on the cliffs and hills inland.

Firstly, thank you to all who attended tonight's planning committee meeting in Whitfield. As a team, we are really proud of the numbers, and we think it shows how strongly the village objects to the development.

Unfortunately, despite a lengthy debate by the planning committee and multiple voting rounds, the application was approved despite only 4 supporters.

As I am sure you can agree, this decision is extremely disappointing, and we question why councillors felt it should be approved when they stated multiple times that they were unhappy with a number of aspects of the proposal.

We're obviously very disappointed with this outcome and frustrated that the Kent county service teams are so ineffectual in their recommendations and responses and disinterested in detail. The most alarming aspect is that the planning committee is hamstrung by ineffectual and weakly worded policies they have created and adopted.

Once again, we thank you for all your support, not only tonight, but since we first set up this movement in December 2024.

The hell on earth for our village is coming and it will change forever.

Kind regards,

The Kingsdown SOS Team

KINGSDOWN SOS UPDATE - Action required

Kitewood have resubmitted the development for 64 homes. A reduction of only 6 homes ( to protect the Saxon Burial Grounds).

We still believe this development is wholly unacceptable and we argue you once again to add your objection to the planning portal at Dover planning. You have until March 13th to do so.

Suggested objection criteria

1 Impact on highways;

2 lack of local facilities;

3 not a sustainable location;

4 poor design;

5 impact on the surrounding countryside and adjacent Kent Downs National Landscape;

6 no overriding justification given for the increase in the number of units from 50 to 64, etc etc.

7. We suggest a reduction to 25 homes maximum bearing in mind all of the limitations listed above.

You can reword your previous submission.

Kingsdown SOS are writing to the planning officer and we have been busy speaking with Ward councillors and the planning committee chair to garner support. We will not give up and we ask you once again to voice your objections.

Thank you.
