☕ LAST YEAR WE RAISED AN AMAZING £1,445—CAN WE BEAT IT?

That was an incredible achievement for our small community. It is a huge challenge, but could we do even better this year for a cause that touches so many lives?

🎶 FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT — THE ARTHUR GILLIES MEMORIAL GATHERING

At the heart of the Arthur Gillies Memorial Gathering will be a special address celebrating Arthur’s life, character and remarkable contribution to piping.

The memorial address will be given by local heritage enthusiast Ross Christie and Oban piper Jamie Macgregor, bringing together Arthur’s local story and his wider place within Scotland’s piping tradition.

The gathering will end with a performance by the Taynuilt Youth Pipe Band. It is difficult to imagine a more fitting conclusion: young local musicians playing together and ensuring that the piping tradition Arthur loved continues to thrive in this part of Argyll.

This is the true meaning of The Carrying Stream—music and knowledge flowing from teacher to pupil and from one generation to the next.

The afternoon will also include an exhibition exploring Arthur’s life and the interconnected stories of seven pipers, memorial piping, a procession through Kilchrenan and the dedication of Arthur’s memorial seat at Kilchrenan Inn.

🎶 SAVE THE DATE — ARTHUR GILLIES MEMORIAL GATHERING 🎶

On Sunday 20 September, everyone is warmly invited to Kilchrenan for a very special afternoon celebrating the life and legacy of Arthur Gillies—one of Scotland’s most accomplished pipers and a deeply respected teacher.

Arthur was known and admired far beyond Avich & Kilchrenan. We hope that pipers, former pupils, friends and families—and anyone with an interest in piping, music or local history—will join us from across Argyll and further afield.

The theme is The Carrying Stream: the living flow of music and knowledge passed from teacher to pupil, through families and communities, from one generation of pipers to the next.

The gathering begins at 12 noon in Kilchrenan Village Hall, where a new exhibition will explore Arthur’s remarkable life and the generations of pipers connected through this tradition.

The afternoon will also include:

🎵 Memorial piping and words of remembrance
🎵 A piped procession through the village
🎵 Dedication of Arthur’s memorial seat at Kilchrenan Inn
🎵 Personal recollections, refreshments and music back at the Village Hall

🎉 What a fantastic Kilchrenan Games Day! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, took part, helped out and made the afternoon such brilliant fun.

From the pipers who got the Games off to a stirring start, to the super-strong children who beat the adults in the tug of war; our most stylish senior caber tosser; the girl-power champions of the adult three-legged race; and the surprise appearance of the Kilchrenan Coo—there were memorable moments everywhere!

All the dogs were brilliant too! After the exertions of the Games, the wonderful BBQ recharged our batteries before the grand finale—the duck race.

All but one of our ducks were safely recovered. If anyone spots the final little fugitive in the burn, please return it to us!

Before the school bags, packed lunches and alarm clocks return on Monday, join us for an afternoon of summer fun:

🏃 Children and Adult races
💪 Tug of war and mini-caber tossing
🐕 Dog show
🫧 Biggest bubble, water balance and hula hoop challenges
🦆 Duck race in the burn
🍔 BBQ, home baking and licensed bar

Fun starts at 1-2pm Kilchrenan Playing Field

Followed 2-4pm with more games, food and refreshments at Kilchrenan Village Hall.

The games are ready, the BBQ is being fired up, Krrrrufts is preparing to find Kilchrenan’s finest four-legged competitors… and the ducks are awaiting their moment of glory!

Come along for:

🏃 From 1pm: Games for kids AND adults — egg & spoon, three-legged races and more
💪 Tug of War: kids v kids, families v families, adults v kids…
🐶 Krrrrufts Dog Show: fun rounds including Waggiest Tail — bring your dog!
🌭 2–4pm: BBQ open — £5 entry includes a burger & sausage
🦆 3:30pm: The legendary Kilchrenan Burn Duck Race finale!

🌟 The world premiere of Sueños Semillas at Kilchrenan Village Hall last night was simply incredible! 🌟

A huge thank you to Valeria and Elisa for bringing this wonderful dance-theatre performance to Kilchrenan.

Our audience was treated to beautiful dance combined with a powerful and extremely relevant message about forests, climate change and fire.

Although inspired by Patagonia, the parallels with our own landscapes and our changing world felt very real and very close to home.

Thank you both for sharing this moving and thought-provoking work with our little corner of Argyll. 🌱🔥💚

Schedule announced! 🦆🏆🐶

Kilchrenan Games Day is this Sunday! We now have the running order, so come along to the Village Hall and Playing Field from 1pm–4pm on Sunday 16 August for an afternoon of races, questionable sporting prowess, delightful doggies, BBQ food and the return of the Kilchrenan Burn Duck Race.

🏃 1pm–2:30pm — Let the Games begin!
We’ll have races for children and adults, including the classics — egg & spoon, three-legged races and more. And then there’s the big one: Tug of War. Kids v kids, families v families, adults v kids… we’ll find out who really has the bragging rights in Kilchrenan.

🐶 and Krrrrufts Dog Show!
Four-legged competitors get their chance too, with our decidedly informal take on Crufts! Expect fun rounds such as Waggiest Tail and more, with absolutely no pedigree required. Bring your dog along and enter on the day.

🌭 2pm–4pm — BBQ open
Your £5 entry includes a BBQ burger and sausage, so stick around, have something to eat and enjoy the afternoon.

🦆 3:30pm — THE KILCHRENAN BURN DUCK RACE
Our grand finale! See whose duck makes it down the burn first. You don’t need to be there to enter, so please buy a duck or three even if you can’t join us on Sunday — every ticket helps raise funds for Kilchrenan Village Hall.
