She died of a brain tumour when she was 24. She worked in Acorns children’s hospice in Birmingham and had such passion about her job and how important the service the hospice provided was. After her death my mother and father realised there was nothing available for families in the South East that was remotely comparable. In 1998 Demelza Hospice Care for Children was born! A hospice designed by my
father especially for Children and their families with Terminal or life limiting illnesses to make lasting memories for the children and their families whilst providing high quality care. Whilst Demelza has been a part of life for many years I have never really publicly talked about it or taken on a big challenge myself. In the lead up to the 20th anniversary of the Demelza opening, and now with a daughter(Freya Demelza) it's finally time for my first big challenge! On the 9th September I am competing in the Dart 10k swim. A 10k swim that will take me from Totes to Dittisham, swimming through the open waters of the River Dart! I am by no means an athlete and am landlord of a local pub in Maidstone Kent so to achieve this challenge will be just that! During the event I know I will not only be Swimming for Demelza but I will be Swimming WITH Demelza! My beloved sister. I have a training blog for you to view which has been put together by Play Mountain Social Video Marketing (sponsored by Brook Security and Tinder Corp) and my kit/training and logistics have kindly been sponsored by Sturge International. I’m very much hoping this also inspires many of you to go out and get involved and help raise money for this crucial charity. Please help me to raise money for this awesome charity which is of course very close to my heart and 1000’s of people and families in Kent, East Sussex and South East London. Thank you
Adam
