Food Bank As It Is Presenting real stories from a real food bank, "Food Bank As It Is" is a factual drama that documents the disgrace that is food poverty in the UK.

How does it feel to go hungry for days, yet be surrounded by plenty? What is it like to rely on a food bank to feed yourself and your family? The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 25, states that "everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and wellbeing of himself and of his family". Yet in the UK, in 2016, hundreds of thousands of men, women and children a

re going hungry and cold. On this World Human Rights Day, 10th December 2016, we are announcing the forthcoming production of "Food Bank As It Is" , a factual drama which will provide a window into the world of food poverty in the UK for those who want to look. Documented by a food bank worker who is incensed by what she has seen, these are dramatised real stories from one real food bank. In a theatre and online in Spring 2017. Food poverty in the UK is a national disgrace. Let's show it for what it is.

Mandy.com is a casting website and this year - in an attempt to raise awareness to a subject close to my heart - I've entered their monologue competition...
And so here it is - an abridged version of the character I've had the privilege to play for around three years...
Jackie the Volunteer, is central to the play FOOD BANK AS IT IS, which was written by former Food Bank Manager, Tara Osman, as a means to urgently alert people to the tragedy of food poverty in the UK.
Our theatre company is Empty Plate Productions which seeks to avert further tragedies and change the course of the current relentlessly ferocious trajectory of wide-spread food bank use.
Before it's too late.
We have travelled around the UK and will be very happy to do so again as soon as current restrictions are over. If you have access to a theatre space or feel we can be of any service to your community please don't hesitate to contact us.
