β€οΈ Meet Amanda! Before becoming a Caregiver, Amanda had a varied career that included 16 years in the Prison Service, where she progressed to Senior Officer and supported both staff and prisoners through a wide range of challenges.
She's also worked in security, youth services, finance, animal welfare and volunteering, bringing a wealth of experience into her role today.
As Amanda says:
"There's a lot of transferable skills from all of these roles to one degree or another. Listening, organising, problem solving, building relationships, communicating, understanding, empathy and patience. The list is endless and every day is a school day, always something new to learn whether it's about yourself or the person/people you're working with or for." π¬
Amanda's story is a great reminder that there isn't one route into care. Valuable skills can come from a whole host of careers, whether that's education, healthcare, retail, hospitality, volunteering, raising a family, or supporting a loved one π€
If you've spent your life helping others, solving problems and building relationships, you may already have the skills we're looking for.
